LCTC students compete in SkillsUSA events at SKYCTC, earn state berth

Over 140 area high school students competed in the 5th Region SkillsUSA competition hosted by Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College, along with the Warren County Area Technology Center, on Feb. 21.

Logan County Career & Technical Center’s SkillsUSA team won first place in 10 events and had students place in 8 others.

SkillsUSA is a United States career and technical student organization serving more than 320,000 high school and college students enrolled in training programs including technical, skilled, service, and health occupations.

SkillsUSA offers competitive activities in which students strive to achieve in a variety of occupational skill and leadership areas. Competition in skill and personal achievement is encouraged at all levels. Leadership contests include public speaking, parliamentary procedure, safety, opening and closing ceremonies, and job interviewing. Occupational skill contests include the building trades, health occupations, automotive technology, electrical/electronics, and personal services. Other competitions are: outstanding SkillsUSA chapter, community service, entrepreneurship and customer service.

Winners at the local events will move on to state and national levels. First, second and third place winners in the contest receive a gold, silver, or bonze SkillsUSA medallion.

Faculty members Christie Davenport and Andy Parker accompanied the participants to SKYCTC for the competition.

Electronics Technology – Camden Bond 1st place, can advance to State

                                             Heath Cross 2nd Place, can advance to State

Related Technical Math – Camden Bond 1st place, can advance to State

Welding Sculpture – Alan Scallion 1st place, can advance to State

Internetworking – Dylan Monroe 1st place, can advance to State

Wood Sculpture – Erica Lyons 2nd place, can advance to State

Debate Team – Dylan Monroe and Emmitt Schoonover 1st place, can advance to State

Extemporaneous Speaking – Spencer Corder 1st place, can advance to State

                                                     Calvin Coiner 2nd place, can advance to State

Job Interview – Koby Lyon 1st place, can advance to State

Customer Service – Brittany Runyon 2nd place, can advance to State

Automotive Service Technology – Xavier Monte de Oca 1st place, can advance to State

                                                             Ethan Lowery 3rd place

Automotive MLR – Koby Lyon 2nd place, can advance to State

Welding Fab (team of 3) – Jessie Blythe, Hunter Wright and Ezra McIntosh 3rd place

Precision Machining Technology – Richard Schoonover 1st place, can advance to State

Technical Drafting CAD – David Layton Garrett 3rd place, can advance to State

Transportation Tool Identification – Ezekiel Epley 1st place, can advance to State
