On Wednesday, at the base of Rhea Stadium, employees from the Russellville Independent School District, Cayce Mill Supply, and First Southern National Bank gave out green light bulbs to Russellville residents and Alumni via a “drive up” event, #Light RVKGreen.

With the “thumbs up” from Mayor Mark Stratton and in conjunction with Gov. Andy Beshear’s previous encouragement for Kentucky to light up their homes green to show compassion for those who have lost their lives during this Coronavirus pandemic, Superintendent Bart Flener wanted to join in and show compassion all over Russellville. Being a “Compassionate Citizen” is one of the four essential skills RISD asks students to acquire and become a Panther for life.

A total of 1,200 Green light bulbs were purchased, representative of the student body within the RISD.

The “drive up” began at 9 a.m. with a steady stream of cars coming through the line.

The Russellville READs bookmobile was parked at the site to continue to encourage the importance of reading, especially during this time of “staying home and staying healthy at home”.

Superintendent Flener stated lighting up our homes green is a great way to show some hope, solidarity, and a promise of renewal especially during this time.
