Lewisburg School will dedicate the Birdwhistell Family Outdoor Classroom on Friday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m.

The facility is named for long-time Lewisburg teacher and coach Bob Birdwhistell and his daughter, Jane Birdwhistell Wells, who taught at her alma mater—Lewisburg--from 1993-2017. She was a bright light helping make the school a great place to learn and to work.

Bob Birdwhistell coached the Rangers from 1962-76 and continued teaching at the school until 1982 when he moved to the newly consolidated Logan County High School as the first athletic director and assistant principal. He then became principal at LCHS until his retirement in 1992. After serving as a probation and parole officer, he returned to the Logan County School System as assistant principal at Chandlers School with one of his former Ranger players, Barry Silvey, as principal.

His wife—Jane's mom Donna Birdwhistell—has been a supporter of Lewisburg School for almost 60 years. Jane's sister and brother, Susan Birdwhistell Ezell and Joe Birdwhistell, are Lewisburg alumni.

The public is invited to attend the dedication.
