At the close of the final full week of March 2021, Logan County is close to average with its neighboring counties on percentage of residents who are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus which reached pandemic stage in the United States about a year ago.

The county trails the vaccination rates of Kentucky and the United States by one and a half to two percentage points, however, but is ahead of Tennessee in all categories.

The Washington Post published vaccination rates for almost every county in the United States in its Sunday edition, using statistics supplied by the Centers for Disease Control.

Logan County’s percentages of fully vaccinated residents as of this weekend were 13.1 overall, 17.1 of those 18 or older, and 42.0 for ages 65 and over. Those rates are consistently higher than neighboring counties Todd in Kentucky and Robertson in Tennessee, and far below Muhlenberg County, whose rates are higher that the state and national marks in two of the three categories.

Warren, Simpson and Butler counties had rates similar to Logan’s.

In early winter, Logan County was averaging 20 or more confirmed COVID-19 cases a day, but in recent weeks that rate has fallen consistently into the 6-7 daily range.

As of Friday, March 26, Logan County had dealt with 2,598 confirmed cases since tracking began on the virus. A total of 53 of them had resulted in deaths with 2,337 people having recovered. That computes to 208 active cases as compared to 273 in January.

The Logan County Health Department is accepting names of adults who have not yet taken their shots but want to do so now. Those vaccinations are expected to be administered in April.
