The first Clashes of the Cats of the softball and baseball seasons will be played Tuesday afternoon at Russellville High School, beginning at 5:30. As has been the case in recent years, fans have to decide which sport they want to support. The softball game matches two good teams. Host Russellville is 11-2 overall and has outscored its opponents 151-47. Coach Ryan Davenport’s team has only one senior, one junior, and four sophomores with seven middle school students on the roster. Coach Mark Wood’s Lady Cougars are 8-5 and have won four straight games by a 51-4 count. A highlight of the baseball Clash will be the Panthers honoring long-time retired coach Lou Kendall, who is expected to attend the game. He is a member of the Kentucky Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, as is current Cougar Coach Ethan Meguiar. The Cougars have won four of their last five games and are 6-6 on the season. Coach Robby McLellan’s inexperienced Panthers won their first game of the season last week, crushing Caverna 22-7.
