Chamber presents awards at Annual Dinner

On Tuesday, June 29, the Logan County Chamber of Commerce hosted its Annual Dinner at the Logan County Extension Office with over 220 in attendance.

New Chamber Executive Director Polly Steenbergen said, “We were so happy to hold our first large event since the pandemic. It was a night of fun and celebration, as we celebrated getting Back to Business Around the World.”

The traditional five major awards were presented. They were as follows:

Logan United Award: The boards of education for the Logan County and Russellville Schools for their handling of the pandemic. Superintendent Larry Begley accepted for the city schools and Central Office Administrator Ben Kemplin for the county schools. Board member Carl Seidler made the presentation

The Small Business of the Year went to Creative Canvas by You. Owner Lisa Haley Miller accepted the award and noted the 10-year-old business now has 18,000 followers online. Board member Myla Porter made the presentation.

Teacher of the Year honors went to Judy Lewis Peters, who has worked with Russellville Christian Schools for 27 years. Board member Larry Begley made the presentation.

Farm Family of the Year is Johnson & Sons Dairy Farm. It is owned by Billy and Virginia Johnson, Daniel and Amber Johnson, and David and Lindsey Johnson. David Johnson accepted the award. Board member Mandy Hendleymade the presentation,

Corporate Recognition went to Piggly Wiggly, which was started in Russellville 40 years ago in 1981 by the Al Suhling family.  It’s now owned by Chris and Nancy Suhling Carlson. Chris Carlson accepted the award. Board member Keith Batchelor made the presentation.

Chamber President Jeff Manley handed the awards to each winner.
