Auburn Cruise-In
scheduled Saturday
The annual Auburn Cruise-In, which has been held at the Auburn City Park (McCutchen-Coke Park) for decades, will be held this Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. A variety of vehicles will be on display and their owners are welcome to sit nearby and talk about them. Door prizes and cash for entries will be available, along with an old-time country outdoor meal for exhibitors. The public is welcome. Auburn Tourism asks that those attending use the Amanda Gordon Entrance. For more information, contact Kelly Bond at 270-772-3158.

Lindsey Wilson names
honor students from Logan
President’s List students from Logan County (4.0 GPA) at Lindsey Wilson College for the Spring Semester were Meredith Johnson and Austin Rayno, who are also athletes on the school’s teams. Dean’s list students (3.5 GPA or above) were Coralee Bumpus, Kelby Epley, Carleigh Phillips and Brayden Yates.

Alpaca Show Monday
continues Logan Fair
A unique animal--the alpaca--will be on display Monday as the animal show portion of the Logan County Fair begins. Check-in starts at 1 p.m. and all alpacas in the show must be on the grounds by 1:30 p.m. The show begins at 2 p.m. in the Ag Arena.

KY 664 detour in place
over Sulphur Springs Creek
From Kentucky Transportation Cabinet: A project to replace the KY 664 bridge over Sulphur Spring Creek at mile point 4.4 in Simpson County has started. The bridge is closed until the end of July. Highway 664 runs through much of Southeast Logan County. A signed detour using KY 383, KY 1008, KY 100 and KY 665 will be in place.

Hintons' Thunder Over
Lewisburg sponsors sought
Sponsorships of the Hintons’ 7th Annual Thunder Over Lewisburg are still welcome through Monday. The free county-wide event will be held Sunday, July 4. The fireworks extravaganza was begun in the 1970s by the Brent Hinton family and was resumed in 2015 by family members. Pyrotechnician Clacy White, a grandson, will electronically shoot the entire fireworks display. Everyone is welcome to watch the show in and around Lewisburg, beginning at 9 p.m. Sponsorships are always needed to help with the expenses of the huge show. They range from $20 to $1,000. Donations are welcome at any time, but Monday is the last day for sponsors to be named on the banner. Contact Sherri Hinton White for sponsorship details. Services set for original
LCHS faculty member
Funeral services will be held in Auburn today for Nannie Ruth Pogue, one of the original members of the Logan County High School faculty when the school opened 39 years ago. The home economics teacher was the widow of long-time Chandlers High School coach Gordon Pogue. Among her survivors are her daughter, Angela Crafton, and her son, Nashville multi-media sports journalist Greg Pogue.

Logan Fair to reach
its peak Saturday
The Monster Trucks event at 7 p.m. in the Ag Arena highlights the final full day pf the 2021 Logan County Fair Saturday. The day begins with the Farmers’ Market in the pavilion of the UK Ag Complex behind the Extension Office from 7:30 a.m.-noon. There is no admission charge for that. Carnival rides begin at 3 p.m. Admission for both the rides and the Monster Trucks is a single fee of $15. Animal shows associated with the fair will be held next week.

Tractor Pull to highlight
Fair on Thursday night
A KTPA Tractor Pull is the main event scheduled for the Logan County Fair Thursday. It begins in the UK Extension Service Ag Arena at 7 p.m. Those who want to exhibit items can drop them off from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Extension Office. Carnival rides begin at 5 p.m. Admission charge is $15 per person.

Logan County Fair opens Tuesday
The 2021 Logan County Fair begins a 10-day run Tuesday when the rides open at 5 p.m. On Tuesday and Wednesday, a ticket to the rides is $10 per person. Thursday through Saturday, tickets cost $15. Tuesday's special attractions will be for the youngest patrons with Robots, Pedal Tractors, and Corn Maze beginning at 5, the Little Mr. and Miss Pageant at 6, and the Diaper Derby at 7. See the attached schedule for this week's offerings. Livestock shows will be held next week. The fair is located at the Logan County Extension Campus on the North Bypass of Russellville and John Paul Avenue.

Little Caesars closing in Russellville
Michelle Johnston posted this week on the Logan County, Ky Restaurants Facebook page that the Little Caesars location in Russellville is closing. Johnston, who has worked at the store for six years, said the restaurant will definitely be gone by the end of June and that Friday could have been the final day. There was no answer on the store's telephone line Saturday afternoon. Little Caears has been located across Sam Walton Drive from Wal Mart, adjacent to the U.S. 68-80 North Bypass. Johnston said the closure is a result of "... Corporate looking for more revenue in a town that has 7 or 8 other places serving pizza."

WKU closing Monday
to observe Juneteenth
Thursday, President Joe Biden signed legislation establishing Juneteenth as a US federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. WKU will close Monday in observance of Juneteenth, the newest federal holiday. “This year, I am asking our campus to close on Monday, June 21, in observance of Juneteenth,” WKU President Timothy C. Caboni said in a message to the campus. “There will be no classes or meetings, and I encourage all of you to separate from your daily routine and reflect on the significance of this day.”

From Russellville football coach Mikie Benton: We have made a hire for Russellville Middle School Football coach, Patrick Temple! Patrick is a Russellville Alum class of ‘05, Patrick has been coaching in the Youth Football League since it was brought back in 2018. Patrick has done an amazing job with the youth league and comes into the job having a relationship with all of the players who came from the youth league now and are in 8th grade! Patrick has been coaching in several different sports for our youth, basketball and baseball as well! Excited to watch Patrick get started and extremely excited for our kids.

RHS' Macaria Hines signs to play college basketball in Missouri
Russellville's Macaria Hines has signed her letter of intent to play collegiate basketball at Missouri Central Christian College. Hines played in 97 games during her Lady Panther career, hitting 53 three-pointers and 117 free throws. RHS Athletic Director/Lady Panther coach during her season Ryan Davenport says, "Macaria is not just a great athlete but a fine Christian young lady. She was my intern this year and has an outstanding work ethic and a great attitude." Hines had three different head coaches in her four seasons at Jim Young Gymnasium.

Bruni leaving Russellville
to be BGH assistant principal
Ben Bruni, who was recently promoted to the Central Office from a tenure as Russellville High School principal, announced Saturday that he has been named assistant principal at his alma mater, Bowling Green High School. He wrote, "I can remember being little and bringing my money to McNeill to buy my tickets for the big game on Friday nights… and I can remember sitting on the front steps of the old Jr. High waiting for school to start… and I can remember what it felt like to run out under the lights at The EL and how proud I was that my diploma said Bowling Green High School on it when I walked across that stage… And now I get to be a part of all that again. It’s good to be home… and it’s a great day to be a Purple!"

Night of Gospel to be hosted by Kirby Funeral Services Saturday
Kirby Funeral Services will be the host for a Night of Gospel this Saturday night. Joining Kirby as sponsors are ECC Pressure Washing, Clay’s Towing Autobody and H&H Sheetmetal. Doors open at 110 Franklin Road at 6 p.m. Featured groups will be the Clarksville Soul Stirrers, The MAB Singers and The Gospel Troops. Pastor Colby Barnett will be the master for ceremonies. The evening is free to the public.

Jermani Morris places 6th in
pair of state track events
Russellville freshman Jermani Morris placed sixth in two spring events at the KHSAA Class 1A state track meet Thursday. She ran the 100 meter with a personal record 13.05 and the 200 with another personal best, 26.89. "Not bad for a freshman," joked Coach Mikie Benton.

Skyler McCarley, Lee Dockins
win all-around golds at state
Skylar MCCarley and Lee Dockins from Logan County Gymnastics gave outstanding performances in rhythmic gymnastics at the 2021 Kentucky State Special Olympics held at Eastern Ky University in Richmond recently. McCarley competed in Level 1 and earned a gold medal on hoop and ball, silver on rope, bronze on ribbon and the gold all around. Dockins competed in Level 3 and earned gold on ribbon and ball. She earned silvers on hoop and clubs and was the all around gold medalist in Level 3. They are coached by Polly Porter and Hannah Price. They are the daughters of Daniel and Jennifer McCarley and Harris and Sharon Dockins.

The Logan County Farmers' Market begins its Tuesday sessions for the season today. It will be held from 3-6 p.m. at the UK Ag Complex in the pavilion behind the Extension Office. Farmers' Market is also held each Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until noon.

State's top-ranked team
ends Lady Cougar season
South Warren, the state’s top-ranked team, ran its record to 35-1 Monday with an 11-0 win over Logan County (19-15) in the 4th Region semifinals at WKU. Lady Cougar coach Mark Wood said, “Not the end we wanted but I couldn't be more proud of the way this team fought to get that opportunity. I wanted to say thank you to this year’s senior class. Along with last year’s seniors, they helped turn this program into what it is. We will forever be thankful for you all and all that you have accomplished.”

Hinton leads Lady Cougars
to regional win in opener
The Logan County Lady Cougars earned a berth in Sunday's 4 p.m. regional semifinals with a 4-3 win over Allen County-Scottsville Saturday at WKU. Assistant Coach Michael Crawford says, "Wow, what a game! A 4-3 win over Allen County in the 1st round of regionals. Congrats to a very strong and resilient group. Down 3-1 in bottom of the 7th and Abby Hinton delivered a game tying single and then in the 9th got a base hit with the bases loaded to score KJ Page with the winning run. Great job by Shayla Johnson coming in and shutting them down in relief to get the win. Great team win!

Regional softball play begins
Logan County and Russellville softball teams begin regional tournament play at Western Kentucky University today in a full Saturday afternoon of softball. The 13th District champion Lady Cougars (18-14) take on Allen County-Scottsville (21-12) at 5 p.m., immediately after the runner-up Lady Panthers (21-16) take on Barren County (25-7) at 3. The semifinals are Sunday afternoon with the championship game Monday at 7 p.m. As previously announced, the Logan County baseball Cougars go to Barren County today in that regional. Logan has beaten the Trojans twice this season.
