South Warren ends RHS
season in regional semis
A thrilling, historic season came to an end for the Russellville Lady Panthers in the semifinals of the Fourth Region semifinals Sunday evening at WKU. Coach Ryan Davenport’s team, which finished 24-12, lost 9-1 to powerful South Warren (35-2). “Don’t be sad that it’s over; be glad that it happened,” Davenport told his team and their fans. In Monday’s finals, South will play Greenwood, a 17-0 winner over Allen County-Scottsville earlier in the day Sunday.

Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church
to celebrate 200 years Sunday
Homecoming at Lewisburg’s Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Sunday will celebrate the congregation’s 200th anniversary. Retired pastor and Lewisburg native John Paul Brady will be the speaker. The worship service will begin at 10 a.m. with music by George Cole; presentation of a special American flag by Senator Alice Lynn Forgy Kerr; recognition of the church’s Veterans; and presentations to past pastors Bro. Marvin Hines, Bro. Homer Laster, Bro. Ronnie Forrest & Bro. Joe Simmons, and to current pastor Bro. Tim Nugent. A fellowship lunch will follow the service

Lady Panthers crush Clinton at region
For the second time this season, the Russellville Lady Panthers have cruised past Clinton County in a tournament. Their 16-2 romp in five innings Saturday made history, as Coach Ryan Davenport’s team recorded the first win in the KHSAA Fourth Region Tournament in team history. The first one win over Clinton County came in the Class A Regional. which RHS won in early April. The Lady Panthers now move into Sunday’s semifinals against the South Warren-Barren County winner. The first pitch is scheduled at 4 p.m. at WKU.

Regional softball play begins Saturday
After Friday morning's draw, pairings are now known for the Fourth Region Softball Tournament. The Logan County Lady Cougars play Allen County-Scottsville in the opening game at WKU with an 11 a.m. first pitch. The Russellville Lady Panthers are matched with Clinton County at 5 p.m. See the accompanying bracket for more details.

RHS and LCHS players dominate
2022 all-district softball team
Eight of the dozen players who were named All-13th District Softball for the regular season. They were Madison Penrod, Jaylah Kees, A’miyah Collier and Jacklyn Zuege from Russellville, and Emerson McKinnis, Maddix Mowles, Shelby Gettings and Hailey Burgess from Logan County. Both teams will find out who they play in the Fourth Region Tournament Friday.

The roster for Lady Cougar Middle School Basketball for the 2022-23 season has been chosen, LCHS Head Coach Dedra Adler has announced. The roster includes eight each of eighth graders and seventh graders plus ten fourth graders. They are listed in the attached graphic.

Trio of Lady Panthers honored
Three members of Russellville’s district champion softball team have been honored by the Fourth Region Softball Coaches. Junior A’miyah Collier, who had earlier been named regional MVP by the Fourth Region Athletic Directors, was chosen for the All-Regional Second Team. Named Honorable Mention were junior Jaylah Kees and senior Jacklyn Zuege. Eight of the nine first teamers played for a Warren County school. The other was from Barren County.

Bradshaw offering basketball training
Former Russellville Panther basketball starl Pedro Bradshaw is offering the PB32 Elite Camp for grades 8-12 on Saturday June 25 at RHS. Age groups will be fourth-eighth grades from 9 a.m.-noon and for ninth through twelfth graders from 1-4 p.m. The fee is $25 for the young group and $50 for the older campers. Bradshaw is a player in the Indiana Pacers organization, and current NBA players Terry Taylor and Dylan Windler are scheduled to speak. See the accompanying graphic for registration information.

Higgins' grand slam leads
Lady Panthers to district win
Sophomore infielder Chrissy Higgins picked a great time to hit her first home run of the season. She stroked an seventh-inning inside-the-park grand slam to provide the margin in Russellville's 8-4 win over homestanding Franklin-Simpson Friday night. Now Coach Ryan Davenport's Lady Panthers advance to the 13th District championship game against Logan County, which edged Todd Central in the first game. The finals will be played Saturday at 6 p.m. in Franklin. The Lady Cougars won both regulars season games against RHS, but the Lady Panthers made it to the Final Four of the All A Classic state tournament.

Lady Cougars eliminate Todd Central 1-0
Nora Epley singled in courtesy runner Sydni Blick with the lone run of the game Friday evening as the top-seeded Logan County Lady Cougars edged number four seed Todd Central 1-0 in the opening game of the 13th District Softball Tournament at Franklin. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Blick was running for Shelby Gettings, who had walked. Gettings pitched the shutout. Coach Mark Wood’s team will play the survivor of the Russellville vs. Franklin-Simpson game that followed the Lady Cougar win. The championship game will be played Saturday at 6 p.m. in Franklin.

Lady Panther Jacklyn Zuege to sign with APSU
Russellville senior softball infielder Jacklyn Zuege will sign to play collegiate softball for Austin Peay State University Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at RHS' Jim Young Gymnasium. Zuege, who transferred to the Lady Panthers in midseason, previously played for Louisville Male. She and her older sister Morgan Zuege were part of the Lady Bulldogs program which went 39-0 two years ago and were declared national champion. Morgan already plays for APSU. They are the daughters of former RHS basketball and tennis star Libby Haines Zuege and her husband Steve. About Jacklyn, Coach Ryan Davenport says, "She has been such a great teammate, motivator, and leader. She leads by her actions. She runs from drill to drill, goes 110% at all times, hit or miss her body language and mood never change; she's the ultimate teammate, and such a joy to coach.:

RHS boys b’ball coach Quarles resigns
Russellville High School has announced the resignation of assistant principal/head boys basketball coach Carlos Quarles. His hiring as a head basketball coach in Warren County is expected to be named soon. In his three seasons as the coach, the Panthers had a 27-49 record. His second team bounced back from a 50-point loss to Logan County in the 2020 district tournament to reach the district finals the next year. The new Panther coach will be tasked with bringing RHS back from a five-year slump. Since reaching the regional finals in Coach Phil Todd's final season in 2017, the Panthers have a record of 37-85 and only one appearance in the regional tournament. Principal Rex Booth says a selection committee will be formed following the application period.

LCHS grad Russell Coleman
running for attorney general
Former U.S. Attorney Russell Coleman announced on WRUS’ Feedback program Thursday that he will seek the office of Kentucky Attorney General in next year's Republican primary election. The Louisville lawyer is a graduate of Logan County High School and worked at WRUS while at LCHS, host Don Neagle noted. Coleman is a former FBI special agent and has worked in government in positions chosen for him by former President Donald Trump and U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Coleman's entry into the race came a day after current Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced he will run for governor next year instead of seeking reelection.

Memorial Service for Mike
McCormick planned Saturday
A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon in his native Adairville for Col. Mike McCormick, who died in late January. He held some of the highest positions in the Army of any native Logan Countian. He was also a member of the Logan County Board of Education and the Russellville Electric Plant Board. He served as the first Logan County Solid Waste Coordinator. An updated biography of Col. McCormick appears in the Obituary section of The LoJo.

playground to be dedicated Wednesday
The public is invited to the dedication of the updated playground of Russellville Christian School this Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The school has been located on the campus of Crittenden Drive Church of Christ for almost half a century. The board and staff of the school have expressed appreciation to Neil Kerr, Nathan Kerr and Katherine Kerr for the donation in honor of their late father, Dr. Paul Kerr, "which allowed us to update our playground." Finger foods will be served in the school cafeteria afterwards.

Car show, concert planned rest
of the day at Carrico Park Square
Downtown Russellville will be filled with special vehicles, good music and lots of people the rest of the day. The first car show of the 2022 season is underway on the Public Square, sponsored by Kirby Funeral Services and Clay Bilyeu and Friends. Not long after it ends, the first-ever Concert on Carrico will begin at 6 p.m., featuring Bowling Green’s Tyrone Dunn and Kinfolk. Seeing the cars and hearing the music are free. Food will be available. The Logan County Chamber of Commerce is coordinating events.

RHS' Ries, Baptiste to make signings official
Cousins Lennon Ries and Braxton Baptiste, who played key roles in the Russellville Panthers’ reaching the state championship football game last fall, will sign for their collegiate careers Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Jim Young Gymnasium. Ries was the Panthers’ quarterback and Baptiste the blocking back. Both were superb defenders, and bot have had to overcome serious injuries. Ries with join running back Jovari Gamble at Murray State while Baptiste will announce his choice from among South Florida, Louisville and Florida Atlantic. The public is invited.

Ribbon cutting for The
Filling Station set Wednesday
The Logan County Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon cutting for The Filling Station Wednesday at 4 p.m. The new eatery is located at 1129 Bowling Green Road at the intersection of the Franklin and Bowling Green roads and Russellville East Ninth Street and Franklin Street. It's the long-time location of the Smith & Sons service station. Decades ago, places to buy gasoline were called "filling stations."

Lady Panthers' All A state
run ends in Final Four
The Russellville Lady Panthers added a fourth win to their remarkable showing at the state softball All A Classic Sunday before falling in a shootout in the semifinals in Owensboro. Coach Ryan Davenport's team eliminated Shelby Valley 10-1 in the early morning quarterfinals before losing 10-7 to Louisville Holy Cross in the semifinals. In their four wins at state, the Lady Panthers outscored their opponents 38-3. The RHS record is now 19-6.
