As is usually the case, event planners try to avoid the busy holiday season near Christmas by staging theirs early in December. And, as usual, the first two weekends of December are busier than the week of the big day. That’s certainly true in Logan County this weekend.

The first Sunday in December has been the time for the highly popular Schochoh Christmas Parade for over three decades. Schochoh is located at the intersection of KY 663 and 664 between Adairville and Franklin. The parade starts at 2 p.m. Bring your folding chairs and enjoy the tractors, big farm equipment, horses, bands and wagons converted into floats.

After the parade, everyone is invited to the Schochoh Community Center for food, fellowship and music.

Not far down the road is the world-famous Red River Meeting House. Everyone is invited to a Christmas Candlelight Service there, beginning at 4 p.m.

A Christmas event will be nearby at 715 Bores Road where the Flintridge home has been renovated by the Scales family. Santa Claus and carolers will entertain guests from 1-5 p.m. Details and ticket purchases are available at the Facebook site Flintridge The McCuddy Home.

The Annual Live Nativity in Lewisburg will continue to be a “drive-through” Living Nativity for two nights, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 & 3, from 5-8 p.m, at McKinney Park. It will begin by drivers turning on Stacker Street, going around McKinney Park, and exiting back on to Stacker. There will be a small “take out” meal available or sit-in meal at the United Methodist Church  "The message of Jesus is what we want to be the main focus," planners say. Everyone is welcome to this free event.

Lots of activities will be held in Auburn, as is true most weekends throughout the year. Auburn Tourism begins this weekend with a Christmas Tree Lighting downtown at 7 p.m.

Christmas Open Houses will be held in Auburn Saturday. Those businesses participating include many downtown and at Sugar Maple Plaza along with Colonial House Furniture, Country Breeze Market, and Carriage House Vineyards. These last from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Letters for Santa will be collected in downtown Auburn Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Pictures can be taken by the tree and with the elves. A prize drawing will be held for those showing a receipt for a purchase from a participating business that day.

Friday is the final day to make a contribution to the annual Soldiers Family Christmas at Fort Campbell. This has been going on for almost 20 years. The plan this year is to present gift cards to military families who need extra help.

This is a joint project of Logan County women’s groups affiliated with both the Republican and Democratic parties in Logan.

If you would like to help with this initiative or have any questions, call Evelda  Stearsman at 270-725-1508 or Bobbi Jean Burnett at 270-726-3801. Make checks by Dec. 2, 2022, to Soldier Family Christmas.
