Final performance of Aladdin Jr. Saturday night
The third and final performance of Disney's Aladdin Jr. as part of the Russellville Summer Youth Arts Camp will begin Saturday at 7 p.m. at
deGraffenried Auditorium. About 50 young people have been working on the show all week. A large crowd attended Friday night. Admission is $5.

Third Little League All-Star team in action
In addition to the 9-10 and 11-12 year-old teams, Logan County Little League also has a 10-11 year old team this year. Players include
Dylan Borders, Price Brown, Christian Hines, Jon Allen Cherry, Ethan Haley, Gram Humphrey, Tommy Krohn, Carter Marksberry, Jaxon Montgomery, Chandler
Silvey & Clayte Weathers.
Coaches are Frank Lillard, Alex Krohn, Tom Silvey & Jason Robinson. All three teams are playing in Owensboro this weekend.

Tabby Simmons named Muhlenberg head v'ball coach
A big year continues for former Logan County volleyball player Tabby Simmons Davenport. She married Wesley Davenport.
According to Lady Cougar Assistant Coach Rob Imlay, earlier this year, after graduation from Murray State University this spring, she was
named head volleyball coach at Muhlenberg County High School Wednesday. She is believed to be the first member of the ultra-successful Logan program to
become a head v'ball coach.

Little League All-Stars to begin postseason play
The Logan County Little League All-Star teams begin postseason play Friday in Owensboro. The 9-10 stars are coached by Ethan Meguiar, Kevin White and Jason Hayes. Alll-Stars are
Parker White, Braxton Meguiar, Third Bell, Dylan Penick, Jaden Hayes, Stephen Anderson, Jacob Smock, Tristan Blake, Zack Yates & Blake Wood.
The 11-12 team is coached by Kyle Wall & Travis Steward. Team members are
Jackson Campbell, D.J. Beard, Jordan Blick, Caleb Justice, Tanner Baldwin, Nate Woodall, Koby Wall, Jackson Steward, Bradley Taylor, Nick Wooden &
Austin Rayno.
Both teams play one game per day Friday through Monday to determine seeding before entering the elimination phase.

Reds almost perfect in Little League 9-10 division
The Reds fashioned a 15-1 record in the 9-10 year-old division of Logan County Little League. Team members were
Parker White, Jaxon Montgomery, Preston Hurt, Christian Hines, Jacob Smock, Tristan Blake, Kamden Coursey, Ashton George, Tanner Morrow, Evan Mitchell,
John Carter Myers & Austin Starks.
Coaches were Kevin White, John Myers & Travis Hurt. White, Smock and Blake were named all-stars.

Tyler Reed headed to Olympic trials for second time
A young man with strong Logan County ties is in the running, act-ually the swimming, for a berth on the U.S. Olympic team. Tyler Reed is
the son of Kenny and JoLynn Reed of Butler County. He is a graduate the University of Kentucky where he was a winning swimmer. He finished
5th in the NCAA National Tournament in the 100 freestyle, earning All-American honors. He also is a competitor in the 50-meter and 200-meter freestyles. He
will race in all three in the trials in Omaha, hoping to earn a berth in the London Olympics later this year. He probably will face multi-gold winner Michael Phelps in the tryouts. He also competed in the 2008 Trials.
Kenny Reed is an Auburn native. Tyler is the grandson of Eunice Reed and the late Auburn Councilman Hayden Reed. He is
the nephew of Danny Reed and well-known Auburn/Logan County basketball coach Barry Reed. Tyler started swimming in the
Russellville-based Southern Kentucky Swim Club (SKY), which is now headquartered in Bowling Green after Coach Dee Wilkins left the
Carpenter Center for his alma mater, Bowling Green. Reed still is officially affiliated with SKY, even though he trains in Lexington. A more detailed story

Kesi Neblett part of Gatton Academy, China trip
A Russellvillian is among 35 Gatton Academy students studying abroad focusing on research and culture, and unique public and private industry partnerships
via 10-week research internships in some of the nation's most premier programs. Kesi Neblett ('13) of Russellville traveled with 27 other
WKU community members to Beijing's North China Electric Power University for two weeks during June with the Confucius Institute's China
Experience 2012, Both the Confucius Institute and the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky are part of
Western Kentucky University.

RATC SkillsUSA team to present public performance
Monday the Russellville Area Technology Center team will demonstrate their competition performance for the public. This will be treated just like a
competition run for them. Coach Melissa Jones has asked volunteers to "score" the performance as team members prepare for the SkillsUSA's
annual National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City.
The public is invited to watch and encourage them before they leave for national competition. The Showcase Celebration will be held at the Russellville
Media Center on Summer Street below Rhea Stadium (where the middle school used to stand) at 6 p.m. with refreshments to follow. Dakota Bray will also be talking about his candidacy for SkillsUSA National Office.
Auburn railroad crossings to be repaired this week
R.J. Corman Railroad will be performing rail crossing maintenance in the Auburn area during the week of June 18-22. The Matlock Lane crossing on U.S. 68-80
will be closed from Monday, June 18 at 6 a.m. until Wednesday, June 20 at 7 a.m., weather permitting. Then beginning at 6 a.m. Tuesday, June 19 until
Thursday, June 21 at 7:a.m., College Street between West Main Street and Maple Street.will be closed. Starting on Wednesday, June 20 at 6 a.m, and lasting
until Friday, June 22 at 7 a.m., Perkins Street between West Main Street and Maple Street will be closed. Anyone needing additional information should

Beshear pciks Barry Joe Wright to succeed Watkins
Gov. Steve Beshear has appointed Green Ridge farmer Barry Joe Wright to fill the position on Logan Fiscal Court which
came available upon the death of incumbent Curtis Watkins. He was recommended by Mr. Watkins, Judge-Executive Logan Chick
, Be-shear contact man Warren McReynolds and the Democratic Executive Committee headed by Evelda Steersman. Wright will
be in the post until the General Election in November when someone is elected to serve the final two years of Watkins' term. Wright is expected to be the
Democratic nominee for that longer term.
Northwestern Logan 1-room schools to be featured
LOGAN LINKS, the genealogical newsletter, will feature one-room schools in the northwestern section of Logan County in the June issue. Schools listed in
the 1902 census are Mt. Miriah, Green Ridge, O'Roark, Harrison, and Lyon. They have pictures of Harri-son but none of the other schools or students. If
anyone has a picture they can copy or stories they remember by attending one of these schools, notify the Logan County Genealogical Society at logankyarchives@att.net or lynejudy@gmail.com. Mt. Miriah was a school for blacks and only had five families with students who were enrolled
there. Others were schools for whites.
Notification is needed by June 20, so staffers will have time to arrange a trip to someone's house to copy the pictures. They do not want to
borrow the pictures for fear of losing them. They can also be brought to the Archives (next to Ben Brown's PVA office and across from the
post office) and they will be scanned immediately.

Senior Farmers' Market vouchers being distributed
Vouchers to receive free vegetables at the Logan County Farmers Market are now available at the Russellville Senior Center at 701 Day Street. These
vouchers are for those 60 or older who meet certain income guidelines. Hours of distribution are 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The Farmers' Market is open Tuesdays from
noon-4 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m.-noon at the UK Ag Complex on the 68-80 Bypass across from the Marathon gas center.

Aces finish 4-3 in tournament at Cooperstown
The Logan County-based Western Kentucky Aces finished 4-3 in an invitation-only tournament at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. They were ranked 27th
among 104 teams in pool play. Members of the team are
Jackson Campbell, Jordan Blick, Kaleb Justice, Austin Rayno, Tanner Baldwin, Gage Ward, Jackson Steward, Nick Wooden, D.J. Beard, Colby Wall and
Donavan Alderson.
Coaches are Kyle Wall, Travis Steward & Curt Whittington.

Jackson's Orchard part of Kentucky Wonders here
Jackson's Orchard will have its famed peaches and apples for sale Thursday afternoon as the Kentucky Wonders Garden Market resumes for a second year at
Historic Russellville on East 4th Street across from the Saddle Factory. Clay Turner of Turner Valley Produce will have a variety of
vegetables and flowers for sale, and Kris Partlow will live up to her "The Bread Lady" title. In conjunction with Historic Russelville,
Kentucky Wonders Garden Market will begin at 12:30 p.m. each Thursday this summer.
Tackett leaving LCHS to be coach at Greenup
Harold Tackett
has resigned as teacher and boys basketball coach effective immediately at Logan County High School. Tackett is expected to be named head basketball coach
at Greenup County High School near Ashland later this week, according to LCHS Athletic Director Hugh McReynolds. Tackett has been the
Logan coach four years. His first year the Cougars went 4-21; this past year he guided the Cougars to a 21-11 mark, two wins over crosstown rival
Russellville, and the program's first appearance in the regional tournament in 14 years.
McReynolds says, "Logan County High School is grateful for the contributions and dedication Coach Tackett has shown towards the school and program the past
four years and wishes him nothing but success in his new job."
Principal Casey Jaynes says, “Coach Tackett has revitalized the LCHS boys basketball program and placed it in a position for continued
success in the 13th District and 4th Region. His influence has helped the culture of LCHS immensely and he will be missed by the
students and faculty.”
A search for Coach Tackett's replacement will begin immediately.

Everything coming up Aces in Cooperstown
The Western Ky Aces, who are headquartered in Logan County, will take a 4-2 pool play record into the tournament Wednesday in the Hall of Fame invitational
among 104 teams at the Cooperstown Baseball Dreampark in New York. They got home runs from Gage Ward, Jordan Blick, Kaleb Justice & Donovan Alderson while Nick Wooden pitched a 1-hit shutout in their opener
In a 12-2 win over South Florida, Austin Rayno homered. Blick hit 2 homers & had 5 RBIs in a 9-0 win over Texas. Ward pitched the
shutout. They lost 7-4 Tuesday evening to the Future Baseball Club of Florida. D.J. Beard homered in that one. Jackson Campbell and Blick have also pitched well. The Aces have also toured the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Steer show to highlight Tuesday's fair fare
The most popular ag-related event of each year in Logan County is scheduled Tuesday at the UK Ag Complex as part of the Logan County Fair. The Steer Show
will be held during the afternoon with the sale beginning at 6:30 p.m. Young people and their families work for months preparing their beef cattle for show
and sale. Many volunteers work with the show, and several businesses pay well for the top prize winners.
Also at the fair, 4-H Exhibits are on display through Friday in the Extension Office, the goat show will be Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., the rabbit show
Thursday at 10 a.m., the heifer and bull show that day at 6 p.m., and the highly anticipated Mini Hot Rod Tractor and Truck Pull Saturday at 5 p.m.
This year's fair is the first since the new arena was built.
Ryan Harper to play baseball for Lindsey-Wilson
After an excellent senior year in sports, Logan County graduate Ryan Harper signed to play baseball for Lindsey-Wilson College last week.
Harper was a five-year starter in the infield for Coach Ethan Meguiar's Cougars, who qualified for the regional tournament each year. He
hit ,367 this season with 41 RBIs and 7 home runs. After sitting out two years of basketball, he became a starting guard for Coach Harold Tackett's Cougars this winter. He hit six 3-pointers and scored 28 points in a 90-79 win at Russellville, and scored 13 in a win
over Todd Central that sent LCHS to region for the first time in 14 years. L-W is coached by Jonathan Butler and Mike Mantooth.

Aeron Smith helps Greenwood softball return to state
Aeron Smith
, who was an all-district performer for Logan County softball as a seventh grader, homered and hit a sacrifice fly for the Greenwood Lady Gators Friday as
they edged defending state softball champion Allen County-Scottsville 4-3 in the 4th Region finals, which had been delayed because of Thursday's rain. A
sophomore catcher, Smith is the daughter of former Auburn residents Tim and Darcy Smith.
