Bro. Joe's Radiothon on WRUS Friday

The annual Bro. Joe’s Family Christmas Radiothon conducted by WRUS will be aired Friday from 2-5 p.m. It’s a fundraiser for the annual drive to make Christmas better for local families in need. The charitable operation was started by the late Bro. Joe Carrico, who was the long-time pastor at Post Oak Baptist Church and Logan County’s Doer of Good Deeds. For decades, it was known as Toys for Tots, but that name is copyrighted by the U.S. Marines. Those who want to donate can call 270-542—TOYS, courtesy of LTC Connect. Myla Porter will be the host for the WRUS broadcast.

Cougars' lead slips away in fourth

Logan County led the first three quarters in their Class 4A regional road game Friday at heavily favored Bardstown. The Cougars led 14-0 early in the second quarter, 14-7 at the half and 17-14 after three quarters. But the punting team converted only one of three fake punts late in the game, and the 8-3 Tigers came back to take the lead and the 28-20 win. Elijah Sells returned a punt 28 yards for the first score, freshman TySean Thomeczek connected with quarterback Ridge Holman on a 64-yard pass play, and Caiden Kirby kicked two field goals and two extra points. The Cougars finished the season 4-7.

Panthers edge Bethlehem, season continues

One of the greatest turnaround seasons in Russellville's 90 years of football history will continue at least another week. The Panthers, who started 2024 with records of 0-3 and 1-4, beat visiting Bardstown Bethlehem 28-27 Friday to run their record to 6-5. Even more important, they not only earned another playoff game but also another home game. The Panthers, who are the number one seed from Class 1A, Region I, District 1, will entertain Campbellsville, District II's number two seed, at Rhea Stadium Friday in the regional semifinals. Labryan Nourse caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Hallman, and Nourse ran for 110 yards and a touchdown. Jamarion Gardner ran for 79 yards and a touchdown, and Justin Bigbee returned a kick for a score. Madison Bloodworth kicked two extra points, and Too Too McKeage scored a two-point conversion and recovered a fumble. Noah Stovall intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble.

Logan Countians vote for winning candidates

The majority of voters who submitted ballots in Logan County in the General Election that ended Tuesday helped national, regional and local candidates win, including former President Donald Trump in a return to that office, Congressmen James Comer and Brett Guthrie, Court of Appeal Judge Lisa Payne Jones, Adairville Mayor Donna Blake and Russellville school board members Phillip Wells and Shawnri Gamble. Auburn, Adairviille and Russellville city councils were contested. Rep. Jason Petrie, Commonwealth Attorney Neil Kerr, Auburn Mayor Mike Hughes and Circuit Clerk Mary Jo Orange were reelected unopposed. Logan Countians helped defeat the Private School Voucher Amendment. WRUS’ Chris McGinnis compiled all the candidates’ local point totals. They can be found in a News Article on The LoJo.

Voting on Election Day Tuesday set at 5 Logan sites

With more than a fourth of Logan County's registered voters already having cast their ballots early plus more through absentee ballots, Logan's voters have a choice among five locations to make their preferences known. They are Adairville, Auburn and Lewisburg school gyms, the Logan County Extension Office and the Logan County Career & Technical Center. Hours at each are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. County Clerk Stacy Watkins says about early voting last week, "Over 25 percent of our (19,536) registered voters have made their voice heard already! 4,962 have been through the line to cast their ballots, not including absentee by mail." WRUS will broadcast local results Tuesday night on all its platforms.

Bethlehem coming to RHS to open playoffs

The Bethlehem Eagles of Bardstown will bring a 5-5 record to Rhea Stadium Friday to play First District champion Russellville, also 5-5. The Eagles are the fourth seed in District 2 despite being ranked 11th in the state in Class 1A. The three teams above them in the district are ranted first, third and sixth in the state. A Panther win Friday would allow Coach Mikie Benton's team to stay at home the following week against the Campbellsville-Ballard Memorial survivor. The Panthers' 41-0 loss to a tremendous Paducah Tilghman team Friday had no effect on the pairings in either Class 1A or 4A.

Cougars qualify for Class 4A playoffs again

The Logan County Cougars are preparing for their eighth straight Class 4A playoffs next week, despite having lost their final regular season game 49-7 Friday night. That loss to South Warren—the second-ranked team in the state in Class 5A—didn’t damage the Cougars’ RPI as much as did Hopkinsville’s 35-28 loss to Pleasure Ridge Park, a Class 6A team which came into the game with a 2-8 record. Logan’s RPI fell by less than a point and Hopkinsville’s by 3.5 points. The Tigers join Calloway County as Class 4A District 1 teams whose seasons have ended. The Cougars on Friday will travel to Bardstown, the top seed in District 2.
