Panther basketball hosting summer games Tuesday

Summer basketball practices and games are beginning for school teams. Russellville High School will host a number of teams Tuesday. The RHS Varsity, which now features Trey Tinsley as its head coach, will be in action in Jim Young Gymnasium while Coach Bobby Cardwell's JV Panthers will play at RMS. Athletic Director/Head Softball Coach Ryan Davenport now is at the helm of the boys middle school team.

Logan Youth Football signups underway

If you haven’t signed up for the 2025 Logan County Youth Football season, it’s not too late, Please use the link below to get your kids signed up today! The season is right around the corner and we can’t wait to get started. For a couple more weeks, the plan is to have a link that can be found on the Logan County Youth Football page live. If you have questions on whether you signed up, please reach out and league officials can check the spreadsheet and let you know. Once signups are over, the coach will be reaching out to let you know about the practice schedule.

Those elected to the Russellville High School Site Based Decision Making Council for 2025-26 are parents Haley Jane and Travez Hampton and teachers Tammy Triplett, Jennifer Rogers and Chris Holloman.

Louisville in and Murray closing in on College World Series

Only one slot remains open in the 8-team College Baseball World Series that begins this weekend in Omaha, Neb., and filling it is of great interest in this area. Murray State University blew out Duke 19-9 Sunday to set up an elimination game with the Blue Devils at 6 p.m. today on ESPN. The winner will face UCLA in Omaha. Just like UK experienced last year, this would be the first time the Racers have ever been in the World Series. Meanwhile, the University of Louisville is headed to Omaha for the sixth time under Coach Dan McDaniel following a 3-2 win over Miami Sunday in another Super Regional. The Cardinals’ first opponent is Oregon State in the double elimination tournament.

LCHS Cross Country meeting set Thursday

From Logan County High School: All returning athletes and potential students interested in running Cross Country this fall - It’s time to have our first team meeting and gear up for the upcoming season! There are a ton of exciting updates and upgrades to the program this year, starting with our course and schedule flexibility. We are planning our first team meeting to take place in the new LC Indoor training facility (by the track) this Thursday, June 19, at 5 p.m. If any parents or athletes cannot make this time, we will accommodate additional info and meetings as needed. Auburn Freedom Celebration slated June 29

New Friendship Baptist Church and the City of Auburn will host their annual Freedom Celebration on Sunday, June 29, beginning at 5 p.m. at McCutchen-Coke Park. There will be inflatables, fireworks and eight food trucks. Live music will be provided by Relay Worship Group.

Rides and Figure and oval Track Racing to set Fair in motion

Take a ride or watch a ride when the Logan County Fair begins its 2025 run Tuesday. At least it’s the first day attendees have to pay a gate fee. Gates open and helicopter rides start at 5 p.m. Both will be available all five remaining this week. Also in motion will be vehicles in Figure 8 and Oval Track races, starting at 8. In between, the fifth annual Special Needs Pageant starts at 6. A drawing for a $1,500 cash prize will be held at 8 p.m. Additionally, the regular Tuesday session of the Logan County Farmers’ Market will be held from noon to 4 p.m. with no admission charge.

Faith & Family Night begins soon at Logan Fair

Tonight is Faith & Family Night at the Logan County Fair. Under the pavilion, churches and other organizations will be set up with games and fun. Lucas Celsor will be there playing great music and the Life Choice Pregnancy Care Center Diaper Derby begins at 6. This is all free. The fairgrounds gates open at 5, with the first 50 children age 16 & under getting in free courtesy of the Stuff The Bus Foundation of SOKYCaseys Rides fire up at 5:30. At 8 p.m., someone is going to win $1,500 cash. You must be present to win. WRUS’ Chris McGinnis will broadcast live from the fair entrance, from 4:45-5:45, with all the details.

Former RHS students working on Trigg gym floor

From former Russellville High School Principal and now Trigg County Superintendent Rex Booth: This week I’ve got to catch up with two of my former students from Russellville who are working for C and C Contracting on our gym renovations this summer. Pretty awesome full-circle moment! Super proud of the adults Eric Zamarripa and Nathan Cates have become and very excited to see the finished product of our gym knowing those guys will have had a lot to do with making it happen.

Mason Davenport named to 4-H State Teen Council

From Logan County 4-H Agent Maci Venable: Three of our Logan County teens: Mason Davenport, Tatum Grise, and Everett Halcomb, attended the 2025 KY 4-H Teen Conference this month in Lexington! They spent the week going to classes, completing a service project, forging friendships, and improving their leadership skills! A shoutout to Mason Davenport for being selected as a member of the 4-H State Teen Council. He will be a voice for our area by collaborating with other youth from across the state, and he will grow as a leader!

RHS Beta takes to national firsts and 3 more high finishes

Russellville High School senior Beta Club members were recently honored for their achievements at the National Convention in Orlando. They are Ella Kate Parrish - 1st in Color Photography, Aliza Wilson - 1st in 11th Grade Language Arts, Reed Parrish - 4th in 12th Grade Social Studies, Ella Kate Parrish - 5th Place in 11th Grade Social Studies, and Caleb Ragland - 6th Place in Performing Arts - Solo, Duo, & Trios.

Restricted crossing U-turn to be built on U.S. 68 near Logan

From Wes Watt of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet: A Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP) is set to begin on U.S. 68 in the Browning Community area of Warren County. The project will construct a Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) at the intersection of U.S. 68 and KY 242. Motorists should expect lane closures throughout the entire construction process.

Jackson’s Orchard bringing peaches to R’ville Thursday

Jackson's Orchard will begin its annual visits to Russellville this Thursday with a load of its popular peaches. Owner/founder Bill Jackson says the truck should arrive in the parking lot of Fellowship Church of Christ across from the old Logan County Hospital on Franklin Street about 11 a.m. Turner Valley vegetables will also be available on the eve of the Fourth of July.

Kate Gorrell Collins to lead RHS Alumni Club

Long-time Russellville Alumni Club President Jean Sosh Reynolds has announced that she is relinquishing that position and will be replaced by Kate Gorrell Collins, a 1973 graduate. Greg Owens will be vice president, and the secretary will be Paulette Benton Smith secretary, but a treasurer is needed to replace Haley Browning Jayne. Mary Lucy Franklin was the aoriginal leader of the organization.
