The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) has put the entire Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 area under a Winter Storm Watch beginning in the early hours of Saturday morning. A winter weather system is expected to move through the area over the weekend. District 3 crews have been prepping for this winter weather system all week and will mobilize Thursday morning to begin anti-icing operations.

District 3 includes Logan County and all the Kentucky counties which touch it except Muhlenberg (Todd, Butler, Warren and Simpson).

Motorists are advised to be on the lookout for snow & ice vehicles on the roadway. Please give these vehicles plenty of space. Crews will be putting brine on the roadway in preparation of the winter weather event. Brine is a mixture of salt and water. When placed on the roadway, it lowers the freezing temperatures of the roadway.

The District 3 snow & ice team is monitoring forecasts and is prepared to mobilize crews to treat roads as needed. The exact timing of the winter system is still to be determined and will most likely change between now and the weekend. The NWS is predicting major snowfall amounts with considerable traffic impacts, but the forecasts continue to evolve. More information will be released when more accurate weather information is available.

Please do not call 911 or law enforcement offices to find out information about road conditions.
