Registration begins for The Grinch at Public Library

The Friends of the Logan County Public Library have invited The Grinch to come celebrate the holidays with Logan Countians. Tickets are required but are free. Registration begins on the library website on Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. The program is designed for children ages 9 and younger and their families. Space is limited to 60 children for each of two showtimes on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 5 and 6 p.m.

Christmas Toy Drive Concert offered Wednesday

A Christmas Toy Drive Concert will be presented Wednesday, Dec. 3, at deGraffenried Auditorium at Russellville High School, featuring NextGen Praise & Worship Team. Admission is a new, unwrapped toy. All proceeds go to Bro. Joe's Family Christmas/Agape House.

Santa to be at the Chamber

After the 6 p.m. Russellville Christmas Parade Friday, families can head over to the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, where Santa will be waiting to visit with them until 8 p.m. Kids can meet Santa, take a photo, and even hand him their Christmas letter. Santa will send a letter back in the mail just in time for Christmas!

Lewisburg Christmas Market open Saturday

Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church will be the site Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. of the Lewisburg Christmas Market. Vendors will be set up selling baked goods, boutique clothing, home decor, crafts, and much more! Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be visiting! Planners Jessie Arnold and Kristin Johnson Celsor say, “Join us for a fun filled day of shopping and supporting local just in time for Christmas.” Other Christmas activities will be going on around Lewisburg all day.

Lewisburg Community Live Nativity, meal offered Saturday

This year the Lewisburg Community Live Nativity is one night. It will start on Front Street in Lewisburg. This is a drive through event. Come prepare your heart for Christmas as you drive through and view scenes from the night of Jesus’ birth. There will be a sit-down meal served at Lewisburg Community Fellowship at 197 Second Street. Come by and get a bite to eat and fellowship before or after driving through the Live Nativity. The Lewisburg Community Choir will be providing music for your enjoyment. This is a completely free event provided by Lewisburg Community Ministries.

Christmas Candlelight Service at Red River

After the Schochoh Christmas Parade Sunday, the annual Christmas Candlelight Service will be held at Red River Meeting House as it nears the end of its 225th anniversary observance. The service is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Historian Robert Operia will speak. Christmas music will be sung and played on zithers. Light refreshments will be served. Festival of Lessons & Carols UMC Sunday

The Russellville United Methodist Temple will celebrate the Advent season with choral, instrumental and handbell music in a Festival of Lessons & Carols. It begins at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church, which is located on South Main Street.

The Medical Center at Russellville will present Make the Season Bright with a program and tree lighting Monday at 5:30 p.m. and cookies and cocoa at 6. “Make the Season Bright offers a simple and heartfelt way for you to reserve a tree light in honor or memory of someone special this holiday season,” hospital staff report.

Shelly Rogers selling cookbook today for good cause

Logan County's Shelly Rogers is at Greenwood Mall until 6 p.m. today sharing her cookbook for all Christmas shoppers! "Come visit her in The Market 270 store!" says Lugene Rogers. She was there all day Saturday, too. All proceeds from her book sales benefit DSSKY (Down Syndrome of Southern Kentucky).

Auburn Christmas Parade next Sunday

The Auburn Christmas Parade will begin at 3 p.m. next Sunday, Dec. 14. There will be prize money for overall, float, tractor, classic car, jeep and golf cart. After the parade, everyone is invited to the Auburn Fire Department for snacks and to visit with Santa and Rodney the Bucking Reindeer. Free ornaments will be provided by local businesses.

“Welcome Christmas Light” is the theme of the deGraffenried Chorale’s Christmas Concert. It will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at the United Methodist Temple on South Main Street in Russellville. Mary Beth Dowden is the director and Susan Fox the accompanist.

Photos with Santa offered in Auburn

Photos with Santa will be available in downtown Auburn Saturday, Dec. 13, for a $5 donation to benefit Southern Paws and Lily’s Ranch from noon to 3 p.m. The location is Crystal & Craft at 102 East Main Street. Pictures can be taken with children or pets. Kittens will be available to pet or for adoption.

The Russellville Rotary Club honored Students of the Semester from each high school in Logan County recently. These outstanding students were selected for their leadership, character, and commitment to excellence.  The honoree from Russellville High School is Aliza Wilson, who is pictured with RHS Principal Drew Teel.

Grief comfort session offered at Walnut Grove

As the Christmas season approaches, the holidays can feel especially heavy for those who have lost someone they love. On Sunday, Dec. 14, Walnut Grove Baptist Church will host “Time of Reflection,” a quiet, compassionate gathering designed to honor the memory of your loved one while offering comfort, prayer, and hope to those who are still grieving. Church leaders say, “Join us as we pause together, remember together, and find strength together. We invite you to come, reflect, and receive encouragement as we enter the Christmas season.” The service will begin at 10 a.m. at the Parkway Campus.

EPB customer ham giveaway in Russellville

Russellville Electric Plant Board in conjunction with TVA will distribute hams at no charge to Russellville members on Tuesday, Dec 16, from 9 a.m. until noon (or as long as supplies last) at Good Samaritan on East Fourth Street in Russellville. You must present a Russellville Electric Plant Board bill and an ID with a matching address to receive a ham. Good Samaritan officials add, “We will run this like we do all of our drive through distributions. Line up at the back of the parking lot on S. Caldwell Street. TVA has set the requirements as stated on the flyer! Be sure to follow the directions.”

A new program is coming to Logan County, and surrounding counties. Logan County, in partnership with Monroe County Extension Service, is hosting the South Central Kentucky Deer School. Auburn Christmas Parade, other activities canceled

From Auburn Tourism: “Unfortunately due to severe cold temperatures and the wind-chill getting as low as -10 degrees we have decided to cancel all events for Sunday.” That includes the Christmas Parade and public gatherings which were to follow it.

Dr. Audrey Wells performs in Christmas musical

Logan Eye Care Center’s Dr. Audrey Wells has performed this weekend in her first musical, A Christmas Carol, The Musical, as the Ghost of Christmas Future. Today is the final presentation at the Alhambra Theatre in Hopkinsville.  Dr. Thad Wells says, “She may have the most Christmas spirit yet of our office crew. It was a fun production to watch and the whole cast did an amazing job!” The doctors, who are cousins, are shown front center in the accompanying picture.

RHS Culinary Facility featured before band concert

The impressive new Culinary Facility at Russellville High School will be featured much of the day Tuesday. The Logan County Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting for it at noon. From 4:30-6 p.m., a public open house will be held by the school. Then the Russellville Board of Education will hold its regular December meeting in the new facility rather than at the central office. The Panther Bands and Choir will also perform a concert in deGraffenried Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Make it Dr. Amy Ross, PhD

The wife of Logan County Attorney Joe Ross is now officially Dr. Amy Ross. Her hooding ceremony was completed by her advisor during her three years at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. George Richardson. Her PhD is in Counselor Education and Supervision.

Wilson, Cenobio-Leonardo earn top band honors

A pair of Russellville High School Band members have received from the Kentucky Music educators Association (KMEA) what Director Tyler Cardwell calls the “highest individual KMEA honor.” Aliza Wilson is a member of the 2026 All-State Band and Juan Cenobio-Leonardo is First Alternate in Trombone and Honorable Mention in Trombone and Euphonium.

Four RHS Band members named first chair at APSU

A quartet of Russellville High School Band members recently earned first chair positions on the Austin Peay State University Honor Band. On the 10th- 12th Grade Honor Symphonic Band are Aliza Wilson on French horn, Juan Cenobio-Leonardo on trombone and Patrick Thomason on tuba. Carissa Estes was chosen 1st Chair Bassoon, 7th-9th Grade HonorBand. Additionally, Xalola Finch is 1st Alternate Bass Clarinet, 10th-12th Grade Honor Symphonic Band.

Long battle with cancer ends for Jamie Dezarn

The long, courageous, public battle against cancer by Jamie Dezarn, 56, an agricultural business leader who has been in the prayers of countless Logan Countians, ended on Thursday, Dec. 18. He and his wife, Rhonda Dezarn, have courageously posted updates about his heath and his many trips for treatments in Houston. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. A celebration of life will immediately follow in the recreational building at Walnut Grove Baptist Church.

Panthers playing in Apollo tourney

The Russellville Panthers are playing this weekend in the Apollo Boys Basketball Christmas Tournament in Owensboro. They are going against Ballard Memorial tonight. Saturday at 4:30 they will go against another group of Panthers, this one from Elizabethtown High School.

Logan has connection in NCAA playoffs

The adage is “there’s always a Logan County Connection,” and that holds true in the NCAA College Football Playoffs that have started this weekend. When the University of Miami plays at Texas A&M Saturday, one of the All-Americans on The U’s team will be Keionte Scott, a second team All-American defensive back from San Diego. He is the nephew of Belinda Reed and her husband, former Logan County High School football player Scott Reed. He also was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes to the nation’s best defensive back. The game will air on ABC television, both the SEC and ACC networks and three ESPN channels at 11 a.m. Saturday. Miami beat Notre Dame before losing to Louisville early in the season and finished strong.

Sophomore Brenley Adler scores her 1,000th varsity point

In a 60-42 win over Carmi-White County Saturday at Calloway County High School, Logan County Lady Cougar sophomore Brenley Adler scored her 1000th career point. As a bench player during her seventh grade year, she scored 172 points in 32 games (5.4 average). She has been a starter ever since and has averaged annual double figures. In the eighth grade, she scored 349 points in 30 games (11.6), Totals were almost identical last year with 355 points in 30 games (11.8). This year she has upped the scoring with 133 points in 8 games (16.6). She went into today’s game with 997 points in 99 games, After scoring 12 today, the total is 1,009 in 100 games, making her exactly a double-figure scorer with much more to come. She is the daughter of LCHS Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Todd Adler and Head Girls Basketball Coach Dedra Adler, both former LCHS athletes.

H&H Holiday Hoopfest to be played today

Four boys and four girls teams will play today in the H&H Holiday Hoopfest, including host Logan County High School. The hosts will play Clarksville Northeast with the boys tipping off at 5:30 and the girls at 7:15. Games begin at 2 p.m. and will be played in both the main gym and the auxiliary gym. Admission is $10 per person; children 10 and under are free. A tournament pass can be purchased for $25 at GoFan only. The schedule of teams and games can be found in the accompanying graphic.

Roy’s-FSNB Classic today and tomorrow

The Roy’s Bar-B-Que/First Southern National Bank Classic will be played this evening and Tuesday at Russellville’s Jim Young Gymnasium. Teams from all across the state will play each other. Action begins at 5:30 tonight between Heritage of the Second Region and John Hardin of the Fifth Region. The Panthers from the Fourth Region will entertain Menifee County of the 16th Region in far Eastern Kentucky at approximately 9 p.m. The Panthers will play Heritage at Tuesday at 10 a.m. and John Hardin at 7. Coach Trey Tinsley’s Panthers, who have a 6-3 record, will be favored in all three of their games.

John Hardin vs. RHS to be ‘a great game’

John Hardin High School of Elizabethtown at Russellville today at 7 p.m. will be “a great game,’ Panther coach Trey Tinsley predicts. The schools’ boys basketball teams go into the finale of the Roy’s Bar-B-Que/First Southern Bank Classic after having blown out the other two teams. RHS (8-3) crushed Heritage of Hopkinsville 73-28 last night and Menifee County 63-23 this morning. John Hardin (4-9) beat Heritage 81-24 and Menifee 82-42.

Panthers edge John Hardin for 3-game sweep

With a thrilling 68-66 win over visiting John Hardin Tuesday night, the Russellville Panthers completed a sweep over all three of the teams which joined them in the Roy’s Bar-B-Que/First Southern National Bank Classic. That runs the first Panther team coached by Trey Tinsley to a 9-3 record in the 2025 section of the schedule. In the eight years since the Panthers were regional runner-up in 2017, they have averaged exactly seven wins a season, reaching nine only once, and that ninth win didn’t come until the district tournament. Tinsley’s team has 15 more regular season games scheduled to accumulate more wins.
