Nationally acclaimed authors scheduled to visit Russellville

Russellville Independent Schools, Russellville READs, and the Logan County Public Library are proud to present Author Fest, April 27 and 28th. Thanks to an Innovative Approaches to Literacy grant, four nationally-acclaimed authors will be visiting us right here in Russellville, and everyone is invited.

During this two-day event, students at Stevenson Elementary and Russellville Middle and High Schools will get to meet with the authors in their schools. Justin Colón, author of The Quacken, and Johnnie Christmas, author of the graphic novel Swim Team, will visit the elementary school. The middle school students will meet Newbery honoree Adam Gidwitz, author of The Inquisitor’s Tale, and high school students will hear from Tiffany D. Jackson, author of Monday’s Not Coming. These wonderful authors will share stories and encouragement with students. Each student will then take home books by the author they meet.

After their school engagements, the authors will join us at an evening event that is open to the public at the Russellville High School’s deGraffenried Auditorium, located at 1101 W 9th Street, Russellville, Ky. On Monday, April 27t at 6 p.m., Colón and Christmas will be in conversation with local artist, book illustrator, and Russellville alumna Emilie Gill moderating. On Tuesday, April 28, at 6  p.m., Gidwitz and Jackson will be in conversation with RHS teacher Maegan Woodlee moderating. They will share their personal stories, their inspiration for writing, and more.

After the presentation Half Price Books will be on-site with new copies of the authors’ books available for purchase and signing, if you would like the chance to meet the authors directly.

“The feedback from last year’s Author Fest was so positive, we jumped at the opportunity to do it again.
