Zone change denied for South Union project
The Bowling Green and Warren County Planning Commission has denied a zone change that would have allowed the creation of a industrial park near the Logan and Simpson county lines. RJ. Corman Railroad Co., requested the change from agricultural to heavy industry zoning for 260 acres of land on Petros and Edgar White roads, the Franklin Favorite reports. The 8-1 no vote was based on problems with the Corman plan in terms of air quality and industrial uses in a rural conservancy area, commission Executive Director Steve Hunter told the newspaper. This was the second time such a plan has been rejected, and both times West Simpson residents opposed the park because of increased vehicle and rail traffic.

Logan getting new driver's license software
Installation of software and cameras for Kentucky’s new driver’s license will require a one-day suspension of license-issuing activity in the Logan County Circuit Court Clerk Sherry Wilkins' office on Tuesday, Sept. 25. Other operations of the Circuit Clerk’s office are not affected, and the office will be open all day. Driver’s licensing operations will resume the following day, and the new license will be available to Logan County residents. The new license has multiple layers of security features, all linked to each other, so counterfeiters must compromise multiple technologies – not just one. Features include: Digital watermark imperceptible to the human eye; bank note-level fine line printing; improved dual-side lamination for greater tamper resistance and durability; hologram with single-color, ultraviolet “ghost” image; starting in the fall, and new licenses will also feature “veteran” and “organ donor” designations. Customers are not required to obtain new licenses before current licenses expire, and the process for obtaining or renewing a license will not change. The cost remains $20.

Russellville was mentioned in an ESPN.com article Friday. Columnist Rick Reilly, formerly of Sports Illustrated, wrote a tongue-in-cheek column in response to Alabama coach Nick Saban's blasting the media for not being appreciate enough of the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers, the team the defending national champion Tide plays Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on Channdl 30. Reilly wrote: "Sure, Alabama has more than 30 players in the NFL right now and Western Kentucky has one, but that's probably because most NFL scouts don't know where the Hilltoppers' dynasty resides (near Russellville, I think). Alabama has never played there." WKU's football stadium is on Russellville Road in Bowling Green. Thanks for the plug, Rick.
