With only three weeks before the start of school, preparations to begin the new year are well under way at Russellville Jr./Sr. High School.

If you haven’t been in the high school lobby, you will be pleasantly surprised at the changes that have occurred with the remodeling and upgrades. We are very excited and grateful to the board for allowing these renovations to occur. The middle school classrooms have been freshly painted, and teachers are already working to make these rooms inviting arenas of learning for our students. New lights have also been placed in the high school gym. Again, we are thankful for the funding that has allowed for these things to occur.

The first day of school for students is Aug. 6. The board voted back in the spring to modify the time schedule for the middle and high school. School will begin promptly at 8 a.m. this year instead of 8:15 and dismissal time will be 3:05 p.m. The first bell will ring at 7:55 for students to report their first period class. A warning bell will ring at 7:59 and final bell at 8:00. Students will be allowed to enter the building at 7:30.

We will have two open house events this year. The first open house is scheduled for Aug. 1 from 4-7 p.m., and this will be for students in grades 9-12 only. The middle school students will have an open house on Aug. 2 from 4-7 p.m.. School pictures for middle school students will be taken on this date. Please dress accordingly—this will help alleviate missing instructional time during the school day. Unfortunately, we were unable to secure the picture company for a high school date. There will be a date in September for high school students and middle school makeups.

Mrs. Kathy VonLehman and Mrs. Jodi Stuart will be sending out schedules to high school students next week with information about when you can schedule a time with them if parents and students need to submit a schedule change. Our goal is to make sure schedule changes have occurred before school starts. Middle school students will be able to pick up schedules during the open house event. Attached are supply lists for our middle school students. High school students will receive specific information about supplies and needed materials from their individual teachers.

We are super excited about the returning staff members and new teachers that we have this school year. One of the most important roles/tasks of the administrative team is to ensure that we provide the best educational experiences we can for your students. One way to do this is to find, recruit and hire the best teachers possible. We look forward to serving you and your child during this upcoming school year.
