From the very beginning of the school's existence, a constant throughout has been the high quality of the band. In 2009, an alumnus of the program has
continued that tradition of excellence and added another sparkling chapter to it.The Marching Cougars' season competitive ended Nov. 7 in the state
semifinals in Oldham County, the second best place it could wrap up. The state finals were only a step away.
Along the way, the band was named Reserve Grand Champion in one contest and placed first in two competitions and second in another. They qualified for
semi-state participation at regionals. The Marching Cougars marched in the Tobacco Festival Parade, playing Michael Jackson's 'Beat,' and also
orchestrated a fun night in Halloween week called "Symphony of Souls."
The Color Guard won competitions at Franklin-Simpson, Todd Central, Butler
County and Glasgow. Schochoh native Nicole Pedigo is the Color Guard instructor.
With their show "Mind Over Metal," the Marching Cougars earned Reserve Grand Champion distinction at Todd Central. First place finishes for the band in
their class came at Glasgow and Todd Central with the second being awarded at Butler County.
Best Percussion honors were awarded at Butler and Todd. Recognition for Best Visuals and Best Music came at Glasgow.
The band is directed by C. Allen Kennedy, an outstanding member of the Logan County Band before his graduation in 2002. He attended Eastern Kentucky
University for two years and then graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2006 with a degree in music education and American sign laguage.
He spent three years as choir director at Hopkinsville Middle School before returning to his alma mater this year. "I absolutely love my job," he tells
friends and quotes Plato on his emails: "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything."
The Marching Cougars have not put away their uniforms for keeps during the 2009-10 school year. They have accepted an invitation to perform in the 2010
Walt Disney Magic Days Parade and will be practicing for it in addition to concert band in the weeks and months to come.
