Riding the momentum they had created the previous two weeks, the Logan County Lady Cougars won big over visiting Todd Central 50-34 Friday. It was the fourth win in five starts for Coach Finley Woodard’s team.

Actually there was no offensive momentum or even offense in the first quarter. Logan led only 5-2 after a quarter. The lead reached 18-9 on a goal by Megan Lindsey, assisted by Maegan Hardison. Again scoring stopped and the Lady Rebels found themselves behind 19-10 at halftime.

Logan dominated the third quarter 20-2. In fact, after Todd’s Jayde Robertson scored the first goal of the second half, the Lady Cougars scored the next 22 points. Lindsey responded to Robertson’s goal quickly, Rachel Barnett hit a rebound shot, and  Kapreshia Powell stuffed in a rebound shot. Hardison made a steal and scored to make it 39-12 at the third quarter buzzer.

Katelyn Jones added to the lead to start the fourth quarter. Twenty-nine was the biggest margin as a result. She also blocked a shot at the other end. Alicia Salazar looked like she was going to hit a layup for Todd, but Hardison knocked it away.

Finally Markizjah Mimms broke the drought, scoring for Todd Central. Coach Steve Phillips’ Lady Rebels then got some offense going and had a much better fourth quarter, but still lost by 16.

Ten Lady Rebels scored, but Savannah Foister and Jayde Robertson were the leaders with just six points in a rebuilding year for Todd Central.

Ten Lady Cougars also scored, and no one was in double figures for the winners either. Hardison scored 9 with Laura Hunt and Powell getting 8 each and Jones 7.  Hardison had 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals, all team highs. Brooke Barnes also had 4 rebounds while Taleia Mason and Hunt joined her with 2 steals each.

The Lady Cougars are now 2-1 in the district while Franklin-Simpson is 1-0, Todd 1-1 and Russellville 1-2.

Logan will entertain powerful Allen County-Scottsville Tuesday in a 6 p.m. doubleheader to be aired on WRUS.
