Russellville academic team members earn honors

The Russellville Middle School Academic Team competed in the regional Governor’s Cup this past week.  Two students, both 8th graders, placed and qualified for the state completion.

 Phillip Wilkerson placed third in Science Written assessments and Ashlee Gilbert placed second in English Written assessments.

“Congratulations to these students on their placements and their advancement to the state competition, which will be held in March.  We know that they will represent our school very well,” says Principal Kim McDaniel. “A special thanks to Tina Shoemake and Mrs. Donna Wilkerson for their work with our middle school academic team for this school year. We look forward to their continued involvement with this team in the future!

RHS not only hosted the district Governor’s Cup this past week. Not only did they oversee the tournament but they also finished as runner-up, only one point behind the champion. Results are as follows:

First Places: Quick Recall, Ethan Mullen in science, Jeffrey Fox in language arts, Emilee Gill in arts & humanities and Kendra Farlee in composition.

Second Places: Future Problem Solving, Mullen in social studies, Jason Fox in arts & humanities

Third Place: Gill in composition

Fourth Place: Wesley Stratton & Sarah Williams tied in mathematics, Trey Farlee in arts & humanities

Fifth Places: Danielle White in science, Madison Rose in language arts and Kaylee Silvey  in composition.

“The high school team performed very well and will continue their run at the upcoming regional competition in Madisonville,” McDaniel says. “A huge thanks to Erica Cassady, Lauren Fynboe and Nick Skaggs for the work and dedication given to help support this team.  We know you and your team will strive to take first place at the regionals!”
