The Logan County Lady Cougars started their season with a three-game win streak, taking a doubleheader from Warren Central before beating Hopkinsville. The first Central game was a romp and the other two victories came by a single run.
In a 13-0 blasting of the Lady Dragons, Coach Michael Crawford’s team totaled nine each of hits and walks. Torrie Pollard had three hits, including a double, in her Lady Cougar softball debut; she also had two RBIs and scored a run. Getting two hits each were seventh grade shortstop Brea Croslin and junior Sierra Morrow, who has moved to third base after starting two years at shortstop. Croslin scored two runs while Morrow had an RBI and a run.
Junior pitcher Meagan Ferguson doubled for two RBIs and scored two runs. Junior catcher Reagan Cole singled in two runs and scored a run. Sophomore Macy Meacham walked twice, one for an RBI, and scored two runs. Junior first baseman Rachel Barnett walked and scored two runs. Junior outfielder Cierra Johnson walked, scored and drove in a run. Sophomore Tristan Hales walked three times, scored and added an RBI. Croslin and Pollard each stole a base.
That’s nine Lady Cougars, all of whom contributed to the offense.
Ferguson worked the first four innings and Meacham the fifth. Both allowed just one hit and no runs.
The Lady Cougars won the nightcap 7-6. Croslin had two hits, including a triple, walked and had an RBI. Junior Taylor Borders and Morrow also tripled, and eighth grader Rosie Kerchenski doubled. Also getting a hit each were sophomore Paige Jones, eighth grader Jillian McLellan and Pollard.
Joining Croslin with an RBI were Hales, Jones and McLellan. Eighth grader Lauren Pollard, Meacham and McLellan reached on errors. Freshman Jordyn Belcher, Lauren Pollard, Meacham, Hales, Cole and Croslin all walked.
Seventh grader Sydney Lee was the starting pitcher. Jones worked four innings, gave up only one run and one hit, struck out five and was credited with the win. Meacham got the last two outs.
The first three batters for the Lady Cougars (Croslin, Torrie Pollard and Ferguson) against Hopkinsville singled, and the next two (Morrow and Cole) walked. As a result, Logan got two runs as Croslin and Pollard crossed the plate. That turned out to be the only runs Logan would score, but they were all that were needed.
Ferguson made sure of that by pitching a complete one-run game. That run was unearned. She scattered six hits and four walks while striking out four Lady Tigers.
Croslin, Pollard, Barnett and Ferguson each had two hits, with Croslin doubling. Morrow’s single was the only other Lady Cougar hit. Morrow and Cole worked the only walks off Hoptown pitcher Darby White. Croslin reached on an error and stole a base.
Courtney Campbell got four of the six hits for Coach Anthony Holloway’s team. The others were by Shelby Harbour and Geraldin Bergren.
The Lady Cougars are scheduled to play at Ohio County Friday.
