Several exciting events are planned Saturday as Logan County celebrates the Fourth of July and America’s Independence.

In downtown Russellville, things get underway as always with the Kiddie Parade, starting at the home of Joyce and the late Bob Guion on East Eighth Street. Lineup begins at 9 a.m. The parade will head north on Main Street to Carrico Park Square, where a ceremony will be held, beginning about 10 a.m., according to Darlene Gooch of Main Street Russellville.

The featured speaker will be Vietnam veteran Joe Harlan. The National Anthem will be sung by recent Logan County High School graduate Molly Bell as the Fort Campbell Color Guard presents the flag.

In case of rain, the ceremony will be moved inside the 4th Street Theater.

*The annual Auburn Cruise In is always held on the first Saturday in July, and this year it happens to be on the Fourth. Interesting vehicles—primarily vintage models—will be on display from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome.

Door Prizes, including cash prizes, will be drawn for registered entries. A beans and cornbread lunch will be provided for all entrants and their families.

This is a free event! Bring your lawn chairs, come & see all the cars, relax & listen to the oldies!” says Kelly Bond, who can be reached for information at 270-772-3158.

Those attending should use the Amanda Gordon Drive entrance off Main Street.

*Thunder Over Lewisburg will be held in North Logan. The fireworks spectacular Is being coordinated by the Hinton family in honor of the late Clacy and Maxine Hinton.

The fireworks will be shot on Hinton property behind the Lewisburg Park. Vendors will set up around 4 p.m. and activities will go on throughout the evening until time for the fireworks. Chaney’s Dairy will have ice cream available.

In addition to the Hintons, the evening is also dedicated to the memory of little Lexi Forgy.

Clacy White, Sherri White and Susan Porter are involved in the planning of the free event and have more information.

*A fireworks show will be held at Adairville at the Red River Fish & Game Habitat just east of downtown. The doors open at 5 p.m. at a fee of $5 per carload, and the public is invited. Music, food, prizes and games will be available until time for fireworks.
