The 2015 Logan County Fair officially began last Saturday with a highly successful horse show that went on into the morning hours. Another event is scheduled for this Friday night, and then seven days full of activities begins Sunday.
The fair will be staged at the Logan County UK Extension Complex, which includes the Extension Office, the open-air pavilion behind it, a large arena, and the grounds surrounding all of them.

Go-Kart Racing will be held this Friday, July 17, in the arena in cooperation with HillBilly Raceway this Friday. Gates open at 4 p.m. with controlled practice beginning at 6 and racing at 7. Eleven classes are offered with age groups ranging from 4-9 to 15-plus with one class for riders 40 and up. Prizes range from trophies to $200. Entry fees are either $25 or $30 with the exception of the youngest group, which is only $5. The cost for spectators is $12. Sunday, July 19, from 1:30-5:30 p.m. An Afternoon of Gospel Singing at the Logan County will be held at the pavilion. It includes Free Admission, Concessions available, Bathrooms available, Please bring lawn chairs to ensure seating. Fair Exhibits will be accepted at the Extension Office from 8 a.m.-noon. Prizes will be given to Cloverbuds, 4-H members and others, and to the best exhibits submitted by anyone else who enters. Some entries will qualify for the Kentucky State Fair.
Monday, July 20, Karaoke Contest will be held Logan County Extension Complex Ag Pavilion, $5 contest entry fee, Registration from 5-6 p.m. and contest begins at 6. Choose your song from these categories: Country, Bluegrass, Rock & Pop, Blues, Motown, Gospel, Country & Western, Bring your own CD. Bring your lawn chairs to ensure seating. Age divisions for Male & Female singers. Youth 12 years & younger, Teen 13-19 years, Young Adults 20-35 years, Adults 36-60 years, Senior over 60 years. Concessions available, Bathrooms available. The Beef Show will begin in the Arena Monday, July 20, at 6 p.m. Check-in for participants begins at 4:30 with cattle on the grounds at 5. Classes will be offered for angus, AOB, chiangus, Hereford, limosin and Simmental breeds. Supreme Champion and Reserve Supreme Chapman will also be awarded for females and for bulls. Showmanship classes will be judged in three age groups, Under 9, 9-14, and 15-21. Cash prizes are awarded.
Monday, July 20, Little Mr. & Little Miss Logan Fair Pageant inside the Logan County Extension Complex Office Meeting Room. The pageant begins at 6 p.m. Deadline for entry is July 16 with a $15 entry fee. Each child can bring one adult in free. For All Others: Door Admission $5 for anyone over 12 years of age, 12 and under get in free. Categories for boys & girls 0-6 months, 7-12 months, 13-18 months, 19-23 months, 2-3 years, 4-5 years, girls only 6-7 years, 8-10 years, 11-12 years. For entry forms see the Facebook Page for Logan County Tourism or pick up/drop off forms at the Logan County Tourism Office (Inside the Historic Old Logan County Courthouse), The Logan County Chamber of Commerce or The Logan County Extension Office. Although not an official Fair event, the Logan County Farmers’ Market will be open from noon-4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, in the pavilion. It’s held each Tuesday of the produce season through the end of October.
The Meat & Dairy Goat Show will be held on the grounds Tuesday. Weigh-in starts at 4 p.m. with goats on the grounds by 5 and the show to begin at 6. A goat can be entered in only one class, and purebred registration papers must be shown for a goat to be entered in a breeding class. Showmanship classes are Novice (under 9), Junior (ages 9-14) and Seniors (15-21).
The same rules and times are in effect for the Swine Show on the same day, as well as the Lamb Show.
Orr’s Bouncin’ Fun of Elktonwill be open from 4-10 p.m. daily Wednesday through Friday. Passes for six different inflatables are $10 each.
Faith and Family Night will be observed Wednesday, July 22, from 4-10 p.m. Church groups and families are invited. Praise music will be played and sung, and church families are invited to come. The bouncies will be $5 that night.
Dog Show will be held Thursday, July 23, beginning at 6 p.m. in the pavilion in partnership with the Logan County Humane Society. Categories include Best Coat, Best Trick and Best Costume in Small Dogs and Large Dogs divisions. An overall award will be given for Best in Show. Registration will begin at 5 with a $5 entry fee per dog. Part of the proceeds will go to the Humane Society, which will have representatives on hand to answer questions about adoptions and handing out goodies. Champion PetFoods is a sponsor.
Farmers’ Market will be open in the parking lot Saturday, July 25, from 7:30-noon, the regular Saturday time. Fresh vegetables and fruits are available.
The Craft Festival will be held from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. on Saturday. Clothing, jewelry, personalized items. Home décor and more will be offered.
The Cook-Off will be held Saturday, July 25, in the Pavilion. Fair-goers are invited to “taste some delicious BBQ and vote for your favorite… try some of the best Bar-B-Q around. We have teams from all over.” Tickets are $5 each. Teams can enter at $50 each. Summers, Kirby & Sanders Funeral Home is the sponsor.
Truck Tug of War is Saturday at the Arena, beginning at 5 p.m. Fair Board Chairman Lonnie Epley has information on it.
The Queen Pageant has been canceled because of lack of participation, according to County Ag Agent Leann Martin.
