At each month’s meeting of the Logan County Board of Education, each school presents a list of “Good News” items. The following is from the August meeting:

Adairville:

Adairville had over 90% percent of parents attend and meet their children’s teachers and visit classrooms.

The Family Resource Youth Service Center is excited to start off the year by offering the annual Volunteer Training.  There are several new volunteers who are eager to partner with Adairville School to enhance learning opportunities for students.

Auburn:

Auburn Archery students competed at the NASP World Tournament held in Nashville, on July 22-25.  The Auburn Archers team finished 56^th in the world, with current 5^th grader Isaac Stanley placing 18^th out of 300 in his age division. In addition to Stanley, the other team members include Hunter Scarbrough, Audrey Hagens, Tanner Morrow, Cody Watkins, Austin Mercer, Clacy White, Lindsey Brinkley, Ella Moore, Colby Snoddy, Emali Wilkins, Noah Sturgill, Taylor Gipson, Mollianne Crawford, Jacob Moore, Eliza Hagens, Sydnee Claypool, Karlee Canler and Noah Hayes. 

Children’s author Ronda Friend was to visit Auburn’s K-5 and 8^th grade classes on Tuesday, Aug.18.  A night of performances and fun, co-sponsored with FRYSC, followed that evening at 5:30.  Students will perform songs and act out Ms. Friend’s picture books, and three staff members will be assuming the role of evil foxes. 

Chandlers:

Over 94 percent of Chandlers parents attended Open House on Monday, July 27.

Lewisburg:

Lewisburg School welcomed a huge crowd of families to the annual “Back to School” night on Monday, July 27. Students were able to meet their teachers, complete paperwork, and meet with other school staff. FRYSC assisted students in need with school supplies and other services.

FRYSC launched a new program called “Christmas in July.” Through this program, community members and organizations  ‘adopted’ a student for back to school, buying them a backpack, school supplies, and a new outfit to start the year. The program was a huge success, and FRYSC hopes to expand it next year to serve more students.

Olmstead:

On Aug. 14, FRYSC hosted a Family Movie Night, featuring “Monsters Inc.”  in the Olmstead Gym  from 6-8 p.m.

In the World Archery Tournament, 5^th grader Brett Knifley placed 5^th, ranking him 6^th out of 670 archers. Fifth grader Cloe Harper placed 11^th. Among 7^th graders, Arika Wright placed 25^th in the world.

LCHS:

LCHS was recognized as attaining the top 10 percent among Kentucky High Schools in the percentage of students meeting College and Career Readiness accountability standards.

JROTC would like to recognize Addison Stewart for her attendance to KY Girls State at Cumberland College.

Sophomore Riley Wharton has been awarded the Boy Scouts of America highest rank of Eagle Scout. Riley’s service project was completed this summer. He renovated the Chandlers School playground.

Brianna Wynn is the Outstanding Region 2 DECA member.

Isiaha Price competed in Chicago this summer at the FBLA National Competition for Introduction to Business.

William Bagby, Blake Taylor, Kenton Howard and Dru Brown received the Top 10% Leadership Awards from the Kentucky FFA Leadership Training Center. Morgan Hunt and Dylan Wilson received the Top 3% Leadership Awards.

LCAS:

Changes are being made at the Logan County Alternative School. LEAP students are visiting LCAS and getting caught up on their classes, and the alternative students are implementing a new point system that will better benefit them.

RATC:

Russellville Area Technology Center started the year with all programs filled to capacity with students.
