Logan Farm Bureau holds annual meeting

The Logan County Farm Bureau Federation held its annual meeting Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Extension Office with approximately 250 members in attendance. The Logan County High School FFA prepared and served a grilled pork chop dinner. Following the invocation by Russell Poore, the pledge of allegiance to the American flag was led by Morgan Hunt, president of the Logan County High School FFA.

President Jeremy Robertson presided over the program and meeting. Farm Bureau State Board Member Russell Poore introduced special guests including State Senator Whitney Westerfield, Logan County Judge Executive Logan Chick, City Councilman Jack Whipple; Magistrates Thomas Bouldin, Jo Orange, and Barry Wright; Monroe County FB President Terry Bryant, FB 4th District Woman’s Chair Vickie Bryant and Barren County FB President & State Board Member Jay Coleman.

The 2015 Outstanding Youth and Variety Show Judges were Christian County FB Woman’s Chair Jennifer Rives, Christian County FB Board Member Preston Rives and Todd County FB President Russell King.

Wesley Estes was recognized as winning the 2015 Leadership in Ag Award, the Logan County Farm Bureau Scholarship, and the 2014 county Outstanding Youth contest. Lilly Robertson was recognized as the state winner of the Outstanding Youth contest and the participant in the Institute of Future Agricultural Leaders. Wesley and Lilly both spoke concerning these Farm Bureau programs and expressed their appreciation.

Carrell Hughes, Women’s Chairman, organized the Outstanding Youth contest and the Variety Show contest. Joe Rogan, KYFB District 4 Program Director, was the moderator. The female winner of the Outstanding Youth contest was Morgan Hunt. The 1st runner-up was Ann-Meguiar Bouldin and 2nd runner-up was Jessalyn Robey. The male winner was Andrew Milam. The 1st runner-up was Dru Brown. The Variety Show winner was Ann-Meguiar Bouldin and the 1st runner-up was Madelyn Hughes.

Farm Bureau Insurance agent Mike Baugh gave a report on behalf of the insurance company and introduced his office staff. The new Farm Bureau Insurance agent is Bobby Reynolds. Kristy Drake and Kristina Head are the customer service representatives. Kristy is also the Logan County Farm Bureau Federation secretary. Carol Ann Wright has recently retired and was presented a watch for her 29 years of service as a customer service representative.

John Alcott presented the policy development resolutions which were adopted and will be sent to the KYFB Annual Meeting for consideration as FB policy: 1. Farmers should be able to eliminate black vultures without a permit if they are causing a problem on the farm. 2. We support the need of regulations on drones, such as permits and strict regulations on personal property. 3. We stress the importance to revisit 601 KRS 1:019 concerning overweight and over dimensional farm equipment.

Frances Brown presented the nominating committee report. The following officers were elected for 2016: President, Jeremy Robertson; 1st Vice President, Jay Campbell; 2nd Vice President, Jonathan Brown; Treasurer, Albert Brown; Women’s Chairman Jennifer Ferris; Women’s Co-Chairman, Karen Milliken and Young Farmer Chairman, Trent Martin.

The directors elected for a two-year term were: Bobby Dawson, Dwight Grise, Richard Moore, Russell Poore, Jonathan Brown, Daniel Gaston, Gary Jenkins, Doug Milliken, Karen Milliken, Jennifer Ferris, Wesley Estes, Daniel Estes and Grant Hildabrand. Morgan Hunt was elected as an Honorary Board Member for one year representing the Logan County FFA Chapter.

The directors with one year to serve are: John Alcott, Bradley Brown, Frances Brown, Jerry Hughes, Ray Hughes, Jeremy Robertson, Carrell Hughes, Tabitha Robertson, Albert Brown, Jay Campbell, Patsy Poore, Brad Hall, Trent Martin and Thomas Poole.

The scholarship donations totaled $310.15. Several door prizes were awarded and the meeting was adjourned.
