The annual Jesse James Art and International Film Festival is scheduled Saturday, April 25 on Russellville’s Carrico Square.
Actually, the film festival begins on Friday, April 24 and continues through Sunday, April 26.
Saturday’s activities include six hours of music. That begins with Banjo Bill with poems by Howard Plank from 11 a.m. until noon, Rock from noon to 1
p.m., “Americana” by Chloe Logan and Charles Crafton from 1-2 p.m., celtic music by Red River Breeze from 2-3 p.m. and Logan Idol karaoke from 3-5 p.m.
The following is the description of the offerings in the film festival, as told by event founder and organizer Mark Griffin.
Friday, April 24
Extra Ordinary Film Project triple feature
Director Jon Russell Cringby didn’t know what he was getting into when he set to make one film a month for a one year period. Using different casts and
locations, Cringby has created diverse films such as comedies, dramas, and even a musical using Nashville talent (look for a cameo of Killer Baez).
Right now, Cringby has collapsed from exhaustion but he promises to make it by midnight.
7 p.m. Bernee - a comedy about a waitress who is less hassled by customers than she is by busybodies. Oh, and her boss is selling fake pot
because he thinks it is less risky.
9:30 p.m. Melvyn’s Clock - Melvyn has lived his life by the clock because he knows his time is short. However, he diverts from his schedule and
almost dies because of it.
11:30 p.m. Two Film Shorts by Banjo Bill: One is an ode to his hometown and the other will turn Oreo cookies into an erotic staple.
Midnight Four on the Floor - Be here for a true Midnight Show, one that hasn’t been seen since soon-to-be horror filmmaker John Carpenter
sneaked into ole Charlie Bowles’ movie theater in Russellville. See a real high school musical where four friends graduate and try to hold onto the
dream of becoming rock stars. Meet Jon Russell Cringby and have some fun. Prizes will be given.
Saturday, April 25
5-6:30 p.m. -- Big Dreamers - From Australia with love. See a small town try to fulfill its dream of becoming known as the capital of the
world’s largest rain boot. A true story.
6:30 - 8 p.m. -- Up The Ridge - An Appalshop production about a small town wrestling with having a maximum security prison in its midst. Sadly,
a true story.
8 -9 p.m. -- Blackberry Winter -- by Brent Stewart, who has just been recognized by Sundance. Here is one of his earlier works which isn’t
available on DVD and can best be described as a radio drama set to visuals.
9-10 p.m. -- The Dr. Orphyus Project - Learn about Dr. Orphyus, the One Man Death Metal Jazz band. Hear him live and see his music videos.
10-midnight - Maniac on the Loose - Who knew Madinsonville, Ky. had so many serial killers and that they were so funny?
Sunday, April 26
5 - 7 p.m. Intolerance - If not for D.W. Griffith, movies today would be very different than they are seen today. See one of this filmmaker’s
silent classics and learn of his connection to Russellville and Jesse James.
7 -9:30 p.m. Barstool Cowboy -- A modern day cowboy breaks his promise to never leave his barstool when he falls for a college art chick. The
moral seems to be support your local bar because it will treat you better.
