The Kentucky State Senate has adopted Senator Joey Pendleton’s resolution (Senate Resolution 231) honoring Chandlers Elementary School for being recognized as a 2010 Kentucky School to
Watch. The Kentucky Schools to Watch program recognizes those middle schools in the Commonwealth that serve as models of academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity, and organizational structures and processes.
Senator Pendleton, D-Hopkinsville, said only a few schools in Kentucky receive this prestigious honor each year. Chandler’s Elementary School serves approximately 450 students in kindergarten through eighth grades and their families. A press release from Pendleton's office notes: "The school has a national reputation for its excellent middle school teachers, outstanding administration, and remarkable student achievements. The mission of Chandlers Elementary School is to develop life learners, creative thinkers, and responsible citizens in the community."
“I want to congratulate Chandlers Elementary School, Principal Elisa Beth Brown, Assistant Principal Byron Darnell, teachers, support staff, students, and parents, for being recognized as a 2010 Kentucky School to Watch,” Pendleton said. “I extend best wishes for continued success in the future.”
Pendleton adds to his ag leadership
Senator Pendleton has been appointed to a conference committee to finalize details of Senate Bill 105, which creates the Kentucky Livestock Care Standards Commission.
"It is an honor to be chosen to serve on the conference committee established to hammer out the details on this legislation dealing with the standards for the care of on-farm livestock and poultry," said Pendleton. "I will work with my colleagues in both the House and the Senate to reach a compromise to send to the Governor for his signature."
Pendleton was chosen by Senate President David L. Williams, R-Burkesville, to represent the Senate Democratic Caucus as a member of the legislative conference committee.
If the conference committee reaches an agreement, the bill will be sent back to the respective bodies to be voted upon. If it gains approval from both the Senate and the House of Representatives, the bill will be sent to Governor Steve Beshear to be signed into law.
"With his experience as a legislator and his many years in agriculture, Senator Pendleton brings to the table a great deal of knowledge and understanding to help move the negotiations along," said Senate Democratic Floor Leader Ed Worley, D-Richmond. "I feel confident that he will represent the caucus well and work across party lines to reach an agreement."
Senator Pendleton represents the 3rd district, which includes Christian, Logan and Todd counties.
