Russellville-based WRUS (610-AM) has announced that Myla Porter is joining the station’s on-air staff. Myla will host the afternoon drive segment, weekdays from 2-6 p.m.
For the past 30 years she has served the people of our area on the airwaves, including morning drives stints at WVVR and WBVR.
WRUS General Manager Chris McGinnis, whom Myla will replace on air, says, “We are very fortunate that Myla wanted to stay local and serve the community she has called home the last three decades. Her experience and talents certainly could have led her to much larger markets, but she had a strong desire to ‘come home.’ We are excited to welcome her back to the place she started in 1985.”
Myla and her husband Pete Porter live in Russellville.
WRUS has served the people of Logan and surrounding counties since 1953. The station provides information and entertainment to the people of our community with a variety of programming, including local, regional and area newscasts, multiple music formats, church programming and more.
The Don Neagle Show airs weekdays from 5-9 a.m., with Feedback, a locally produced, daily call-in show from 9-10. Mack Mallory spins Country’s All-time Greatest Hits weekdays, from 10a.m.-2 p.m., and The Myla Show, will begin Jan. 4, 2-6 p.m.. The station carries sports featuring both local high schools and offers a wide range of weekend programming.
Myla Porter will fill the time spot that became especially entertaining when the late Lon Sosh returned to the station as Big Daddy Bob Alou. When illness prevented his continuing, his fill-in, Tim Harris, became the regular. And when Harris was unable to continue because of health problems, McGinnis took time out from his management duties to become the host.
“Last year at this time we announced the hiring of Lisa Browning...this year it’s Myla!” says McGinnis, who is co-owner of the station along with Neagle. “As you can imagine, I am very excited about those two hires.”
Facebook was filled with congratulatory messages for Myla following the WRUS announcement.
“Thanks for the outpouring of love & support already. I'm so proud to share the news that I will return to WRUS,” she wrote. “Thanks to Don Enable & Chris McGinnis for helping start the next chapter in my radio life.”
