This report from the Kentucky Highway Department's Bowling Green district office was issued at 3:30 a.m.

District 3 road crews reported to their local facility around 11 pm last night and have been patrolling to spot treatment areas since late last night. The precipitation in the District area has mainly been sleet and rain. As of this time the roadways are mainly just wet.

Most roadways still have a good layer of salt on them left over from the winter storm on Wednesday. This will help extend the time frame the roadways remain just wet instead of freezing over. The precipitation is expected to change over to heavy snow later this morning with 8-12 inches predicted by the latest National Weather Service forecast.

It is recommended to avoid any unnecessary travel during this winter storm which is expected to last into Saturday. If motorists must be on the roadway it cannot be stressed enough for them to be focused on driving, exercising extreme caution and operating at very slow speeds. This is a potentially very serious situation and it is vital for folks to be informed.

There are some great KYTC resources and tools available to keep folks informed about road conditions. The District 3 Facebook and Twitter account will be updated regularly with the most up-to-date information. The links to some resources are listed below.
