Schochoh’s Bob Allen has been named to the Southern States Board of Directors. That’s a much bigger role than it appears on the surface.

He already was a member of the Russellville Cooperative Board. This new position is on the board for the entire 200,000-member cooperative. He is the only Kentuckian on the board, representing the entire Commonwealth and parts of Indiana on the board.

He attended his first board meeting on Jan. 27 at the corporate offices in Richmond, Va. The 93-year-old cooperative has 1,200 retail outlets in 23 states.

Allen attended Adairville High School for three years and then was elected president of the first FFA at the new Logan County High School in 1982-83. He was named the first Mr. LCHS.

He farms 2,700 acres in South Logan, raising corn, wheat and soybeans. Previously he was in the retail fertilizer, seed and ag chemical business for 21 years. From 2001 to 2004 he was area manager for IMC and Royster Clark firms, directing operations in Schochoh, Guthrie and Clarksville.

He is chairman of the South Logan Water Association and the University of Kentucky Farm Analysis. He is secretary of Pennyroyal Farm Analysis.

Bob Allen is married to the former Melissa Wright, who is a nurse. They have three sons, Jordan, Justin and Jackson.

He is the son of Bobby and Christine Allen and the late Barbara Allen. He is the son-in-law of Martha Wright.
