Dr. Kevin Hub informed the Logan County Board of Education early Monday evening that he is resigning as superintendent of Logan County Schools. He has accepted a similar position heading Scott County Schools in Georgetown.

Scott is a much more highly populated county than Logan. It is near Lexington and relatively close to Richmond, where Hub’s family has continued to make its home during his two years in Logan County.

In a letter to the board, Hub wrote the following:

“I am writing to inform you of my resignation as superintendent of Logan County Schools, effective June 30. On July 1, I will begin my new role as superintendent of Scott County Schools in Georgetown, Ky.

“While it has been a tremendous honor to serve as your superintendent during the past 2 years, my passion has always led me to positions where I feel that I can have the greatest impact on the lives of students and their families. With nearly 9,000 students, Scott County provides that opportunity.

“This was a very difficult decision to make because I have really enjoyed serving the students of Logan County. This is easily the most rewarding job I’ve ever had.

“I am deeply grateful to the Logan County Board of Education and the entire Logan County community for the opportunity to serve as superintendent. As a school community, we have worked to expand opportunities for our students to succeed in life beyond graduation, to access post-secondary education and to enter the workforce. We have developed a culture that puts the needs of students first. We have expanded staff opportunities for professional development and growth. We have increased communication and engaged our community in ways never previously imagined.

“While I cannot claim our work is finished in Logan County, I also know it never could be. However, I am reassured that I leave behind a tremendously talented leadership team capable of continuing the district’s work on behalf of the students, staff and the entire Logan County community.”

Board Chair Kenny Robertson tells The LoJo that he expects the school system to carry out initiatives that have begun under Hub’s brief tenure, including building a new technical center on the campus of Logan County High School. He said the process will begin soon for the selection of Hub’s successor.

Other members of the board are Johnny Dawson, Ralph Cropper, Tim Hall and Phil Baker.
