When the students of Russellville Independent Schools return from spring break this year, it will be to a faster, more reliable computer network. 

Beginning on March 28, the technology team will start a complete network refresh of the majority of the school system’s internal network infrastructure. 

This will involve upgrading the network internal connectivity from the current 1 gigabit speed to 10 gigabit speed. This will also give 10 gigabit speed from building to building. The process involves replacing the current hardware running the network. The system will be upgrading its network infrastructure by installing new switches and wireless access points. 

This should allow for faster and more reliable access for students and staff on both our wired and wireless networks.

The project will be a nice upgrade, as some of the current equipment is as old as 10 years. The project is being partially funded by the Federal E-Rate program, which is a fund designed to help schools and libraries obtain and maintain internet connectivity and internal networks.

The Russellville Area Technology Center will also benefit from this upgrade with a complete refresh of all internal networking equipment.
