The following Russellville Area Technology Center students are the 2016 Rotary Scholarship Recipients. They were recognized for their accomplishments during the May 5 Rotary luncheon held at the Breathitt House in Russellville. Each scholarship was sponsored by local business and industry in Logan County.
Cierra Johnson --Computer Aided Drafting sponsored by Lewisburg Banking Company -- Cierra is a senior at LCHS and is the daughter of Kandi Slaton and Glendal Johnson. She enjoys playing sports and drawing in her spare time. Cierra has been in the CAD Program for three years and has excelled in the Architectural discipline. Upon Graduation Cierra plans to attend SKYCTC for two years and Western Kentucky University where she will be seeking a degree in Architectural Sciences.
Caleb Cassady --Information Technology sponsored by Electric Plant Board of Russellville – Caleb is a senior at Logan County High School. He is the son of Pam Cassady and Scott Cassady. He is a member of SkillsUSA. He plans to further his education in Information Technology after graduation.
Dalton Furlow --Electricity Technology sponsored by Paul’s Electrical Services– Dalton is the Electrical Technology Scholarship recipient. His parents are Jeff and Kim Furlow. He is a member of Logan County High School Beta, Basketball Team, Bass Fishing Team, GRIT team, and the Student Council. He has a 4.14 GPA and will be attending the University of Louisville in the fall to major in Chemical or Electrical Engineering.
Jared Flatt --Welding Technology sponsored by Logan Aluminum – a Russellville Independent School senior that has excelled in the Welding Technology program. Jared is the son of Andrea and Allen Flatt. He has impressed all of the instructors here with his maturity. He has shown strong academic and welding proficiency. Jared will be attending Lincoln Tech in the fall with aspirations of becoming a Professional Automotive Mechanic.
Miranda Haley --Automotive Technology sponsored by Moore Insurance Agency, LLC – Miranda is a senior at LCHS and is the daughter of Michael Haley and Cindy Duncan. She is a third year student of the automotive program and a second year member of SkillsUSA. She is currently employed at Hughes Farms. After graduation Miranda plans to attend either Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College or Western Kentucky University.
Chris Mayes --Machine Tool Technology sponsored by H&H Sheet Metal Fabricators, Inc. – Chris is a Todd County Central High School Student. He is the son of Chris and Jessica Mayes. The past two years he has competed in SkillsUSA and this year was the Southern Regional Machining Champion. He is currently employed by Tool-Tech of Elkton and plans to attend Hopkinsville Community College after graduation. Chris has endured more the last year than most of us will have to in a lifetime. Throughout his difficulties, he has always displayed a very positive attitude. He is one of the most helpful and considerate people I have ever known.
Saleah Elliott --Administrative Support sponsored by First Southern Bank – a senior attending Russellville High School. She is an active member of BETA and Future Business Leaders of America and serves as an Ambassador for Russellville High School. She will be attending Western Kentucky University in the fall and will begin her major in Biology with a concentration in Pre-Medicine through the Odgen College of Science and Engineering.
Chandara Vanna –Accounting sponsored by Auburn Banking Company -- Chandara Vanna is a senior at Russellville High School and Russellville ATC where she also participates in the Work Based Learning Co-op Program. She is the daughter of Tina Taing of New York and Vanna Krang, owner of Russellville Donuts. Chandara’s bilingual ability enables her to serve as interpreter for her father. Serving in this capacity and through her high school studies, she says she has acquired the skills of leadership, money management, organization, and communication.
Chandara is a 4-year member of the BETA Club where she placed 3rd at National BETA. She is also a 4-year DECA Club member, has served as Secretary and is the current year President. She was awarded 1st and 2nd place each year in Fashion Merchandising Competitions at the Regional and State Career Development Conferences and last year attended the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta. She’s also a member of FBLA, Pep Club, and President of the Spanish Club. Chandara’s goal is to double major in Fashion Merchandise and Business Management at Gordon Ford College of Business at Western Kentucky Unversity.
Sam Cosner --Health Sciences sponsored by Logan Memorial Hospital – Sam is a senior at Russellville High School. He is the son of Samuel and Helen Cosner. He is a member of Health Occupation Students of America. After high school he plans to attend Bellarmine University to major in chemistry and pre-pharmacy, then attend the University of Kentucky for Pharmacy School.
