A preacher, a teacher and an “occasional sinner” will speak at the Lewisburg Alumni Banquet Saturday night, May 28. Before it begins, a newly published author will conduct a book signing.
And it all features just one very versatile man.
The Lewisburg High School Class of 1966 will be honored at the banquet in observance of its 50th anniversary. One of the best-known members of that class, John Paul Brady, will be the featured speaker.
In addition to being an alumnus of the North Logan school, Brady is also a former teacher and coach at his alma mater. His wife, Sherri Pitt Brady, is also a native Lewisburgian.
John Paul Brady has also been a minister, a Hospice counselor, and a Christian educator. He has studied journalism, counseling, divinity and special education.
Brady has written a new book, Preachers, Teachers and Other Sinners. The book will be available Saturday as he conducts a book signing from 3-4:30 p.m. at Lewisburg Elementary School. His website, www.johnpaulbrady.com, provides information about the book and tells how it can be purchased.
“In the book I have written stories about teaching and preaching experiences as well as some of my experiences growing up,” he tells The LoJo. “There are a little over 80 stories. Most of them are scripture based. It is actually a different kind of devotional work.
“Not everyone is a preacher or a teacher but all of us sin occasionally.”
Anyone who wants a copy of the book but will not be in Lewisburg Saturday can either order it from his website or send payment to John Paul Brady, 8511 Lasilla Way, Raleigh, N.C. 27616.
The following is a description of the book from the website:
Preachers, Teachers and Other Sinners
God gives each of us stories to tell. He teaches us life lessons through our everyday experiences. We have opportunities to take the lessons we have learned and share them with others to bring glory to God while encouraging our listeners to draw closer to Him. The telling about what God has taught us is our story.
This book is a compilation of stories and devotions gleaned from the author’s experiences as a middle school teacher, a preacher, and unfortunately, a sinner. In his unique voice the author has blended scripture with his stories to reveal the lessons God taught him. These experiences are not uncommon to any Christian who encounters people every day and has children, grandchildren, or a spouse. Almost everyone will be able to relate to the stories in this book. Many of the selections will make you laugh while others are touching and heartwarming and will possibly bring a few tears.
Preachers, Teachers and Other Sinners is an entertaining book. Of course, not everyone is a preacher or a teacher, but all of us sin occasionally. This book was written with the purpose of directing the reader to a loving Savior who desires to draw all people to God no matter who they are.
