LCHS seeks input on potential football coach
Logan County High School Principal Casey Jaynes has issued the following press release: "Logan County High School will be in the process of
hiring a new football coach during the winter months. We believe that it is necessary to hear from various stakeholders in our learning community about

Guiling names assistant commonwealth attorneys
Logan/Todd Commonwealth Attorney Gail Guiling has announced that she has named two assistant county attorneys to work with her. They are Steve Kenney and Lora Lee Robey, each work-ing half-time in that position. Kenney, who is also an evangelist, has been serving as assistant
county attorney under Tom Noe, who has left public practice. Robey, who is married to Eli Robey of the well-known Schochoh farming
operation, has been clerking for Circuit Judge Tyler Gill. The position became available when Joe Ross was elected to succeed Noe.

Tim Davis wins 500th game as high school coach
Tim Davis
, who is the athletic director and boys basketball coach at Campbellsville High School, won his 500th game Dec.11 by a 58-56 count over
Grayson County at North Hardin. His wife, Lewisburg native Joni Smock Davis, notes the Campbellsville newspaper says Tim is the 41st
coach in Kentucky history it to reach that milestone. Davis is in his 31st year as a high school coach, including 16 at C’ville. His current
superintendent is former Logan County track coach and assistant football and basketball coach
Mike Deaton.
Davis’ first coaching success came at Marion County, where he guided the Knights to a state championship with UK-bound An-thony Epps leading the way.

Logan Connections: Top AP stories have local ties
The top two news stories in Kentucky in 2010, as chosen by the Associated Press, have strong Logan County ties. Number one is Dr. Rand Paul's
victory in the U.S. Senate race, which drew the nation's attention. He is married to Russellville High School alum Kelley Ashby Paul. Second was
the March traffic wreck on I-65, which left 11 people dead, including Joel Gingerich, 22, of Auburn, the 'fiance' of one of the daughters of a
Mennonite family who list nine members in the crash, Rachel Esh. Another victim, Ashley Meshel Kramer of Franklin, had close relatives in
Logan.

Host teams in action today in FSNB/Roy's Classic
All four host teams will be in action Monday as the First Southern National Bank/Roy's Bar BQ Holiday Classic 2010 gets underway. After afternoon
action at both gyms, the RHS Lady Panthers (3-7) come into the tournament as champions, having won all three of their games in the Reidland Christmas
Tournament, ending with a 55-54 win over the host team. Coach Dedra Adler's team will face Mayfield (4-4) at 6:30 p.m. at Jim Young Gymnasium.
The Panthers (6-4) will try to break a two-game losing streak after falling to Fort Thomas Highlands and Perry County Central in a tournament at Mercer
County. They also play Mayfield (4-4) following the girls game.
At Logan County High School, the Lady Cougars (2-5) will face Moore Traditional at 6 p.m. The Cougars (9-1) then will take on Caverna (3-7), a team
they beat 76-52 last week for third place at Warren East.
Russell County's teams come in with impressive records with the girls at 8-2 and the boys 7-2. The complete brackets can be seen in a Sports story that
ran on The LoJo in November.
The 8-0 and 9-1 starts for the Logan County boys basketball team this season are remarkable, especially when you consider that the program has averaged
just seven wins per season in the 12 years since the Cougars got their last postseason victory in 1998. Five of those years, the win total didn’t reach
nine the entire season, let alone before Christmas. Three other season totals were this same nine.

Lady Panthers champs of Reidland Tournament
The Russellville Lady Panthers won all three of their games in the Reidland Christmas Tournament this week, beating Fulton County 55-33, Lyon County
56-52 and the host team 55-54. Coach Dedra Adler's team had been winless going into the tournament, but is much improved lately with the players
working together better and with the addition of 6-1 sophomore Kesi Neblett, who reported late after volleyball season.

Cougars' win streak to start the season ends at 8
After edging Louisville Shawnee 60-57 Monday in the first round of a tournament at Warren East, the Logan County Cougars lost 79-63 to John Hardin
Tuesday. That ended Coach Harold Tackett's season-opening win streak at 8-0...The Russellville Panthers came back from a 30-point loss to a Florida
team Monday in a tourna-ment at Mercer County to beat Marion County 71-56 Tuesday. Both tournaments continue Wednesday,

Civil Air Patrol to stage exercises at local airport
Dec. 29 and 30, the Russellville Logan County Airport will be a staging area for the United States Civil Air Patrol (CAP) to conduct a practice Search
and Rescue Exercise the week after Christmas. This unit will conduct the exercise in conjunction with a statewide exercise by the Kentucky Civil Air
Patrol Wing Headquarters in Frankfort, according to local airport manager
Barry Smotherman.
Senior and Cadet CAP members will be using the RLC Airport Terminal building as a hub for CAP Pilot briefing, scanner briefing, logistics,
administrative, radio operations and many other critical duties involved in scenarios such as this. There will be a CAP Cessna 172 flying these two
days, locating strategic locations chosen by CAP Commanders around Logan County as well a CAP vehicle.
If the Civil Air Patrol is something you feel of interest for your as a senior member or your children as a cadet, this would be a good opportunity to
stop by the airport on these dates between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Cadets can join between the ages of 12-18 years and seniors 19 and above. CAP is a good way
for the youth to see if aviation or the Air Force would be something of interest in their lives.

Long-time Logan County Family and Consumer Science Agent Marian (Jeannie) Davis died Sunday afternoon. According to her cousin, retired state
agriculture leader George Duncan, "She had a heart attack a week to ten days ago and had been on a ventilator." Viaitation will be from 5-8 p.m.
Wednesday at Young Funeral Home in Russellville, and the funeral is at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23. Mrs. Davis followed the legendary Margaret Sullivan Berg as "home agent" and served in that capacity for many years

Sye Head leads Kentucky runners in North Carolina
Six members of the Logan County cross country team ran in the Footlocker race in Charlotte, N.C. recently as members of the Kentucky Momentum Racing
Team. Sye Head was the first Kentuckian to cross the finish line with a time of 16:36.6, a 7-second improvement on his best time ever. He
finished 19th over-all and was named to the All-South Team. Noah Thomas finished 119th and had a personal best at 17:47.55.Colton Spencer was 129th at 17:55. Devon Cross was 22nd. All four ran better times than they did at Charlotte last year. Thomas Lyne of Olmstead was 26th in the 11-12 division and was honored for his top 30 finish Cory Ford of Auburn was 33rd in the 13-14
age group.

Russellville duo to play in Best of the Bluegrass
Senior backs D.J. Quarles and Devonte Bryant will be members of the state squad during the Best of the Bluegrass All Star Football Game
at St. Xavier High School in Louisville Sunday at 1 p.m., RHS time. The game matches the state's best players against the best from Louisville. Two of
the best all-around players in school history, Bryant and Quarles have been practicing since Thursday. Quarles has been named Region I Class 3A Player
of the Year

Cougars, Panthers get district opening wins Friday
For the first time in five years, the Logan County Cougars beat Franklin-Simpson Friday, edging the Wildcats 67-65. Logan is now 4-0 on the season. Jon Richardson hit the winning free throw after three Cougars had fouled out.... The Russellville Panthers beat Todd Central 70-52 across
town... Franklin and Todd won the girls games.

RHS alum's home to be featured in magazine
The home of Laura Milam Ross and her husband Matt is being featured in the winter issue of Atomic Ranch, a magazine devoted
to mid-century homes. The house is a true contemporary design by architect John Randal McDonald and was built in 1959 in Lexington. Laura, a
1996 Russellville High School graduate, wrote the major text of the article, "Martini House in a Mint Julep State," and Matt did much of the
photography. Laura and Matt, Lexington attorneys, have completed some renovations and have more planned to restore the house to its original intent. Atomic Ranch, Winter Issue 2010, will be on sale in the next few days in major bookstores, including Barnes and Noble and Books A Million.

Russellville's Myers 3A state coach of the year

, Russellville High School's head football coach as well as itsprincipal, has been named the Kentucky Football Coaches Association/Russell Athletic
Coach of the Year for Class 3A. The Panthers reached the state semifinals for the third time in the four years RHS was in 3A. Anthony Wales of state
champion Louisville Central is state 3A player of the year. Five of the 6 state coaches of the year are from western Kentucky. In addition to Myers,
they are Joe Morris of Mayfield, Steve Duncan of Mur-ray, Brad Hood of Allen County-Scottsville, Mike Rogers of Warren
Central and Bryson Warner of Ryle.

Panthers win by 90 points over Falcons
The basketball team from Fort Camp-bell High School had a rough night in the Land of Logan Tuesday. Coach Dennis Pardue'sRussellville Panthers
romped past the Falcons 115-25 at Jim Young Gymnasium. Victor Hampton hit all 13 of his shots to lead the way with 26 points.

Christmas events at Schochoh, Red River
The 21st Annual Schochoh Christmas Parade will begin at 2 p.m. A complimentary meal will be served after the parade at the Schochoh Community Center.

Undefeated Logan basketball teams in action tonight
After winning their season openers earlier this week, the basketball teams of Logan County High will play tonight. The Cougars, who romped over
Whitesville Trinity 92-40 Tuesday, go to Warren East (0-1). The Lady Cougars, who beat Warren Central 43-26, will entertain Ohio County. One of the
players for Ohio County is Caitlin Jones, a freshman who spent her early school years here. She had a headline-making volleyball season.

Auburn Historical Society Homes Tour Sunday
Auburn Museum and three homes will be on the Auburn Historical Society Tour of Homes on Sunday, Dec. 5; from 3-6:p.m. Tickets are $10 per person for
the entire tour and may be purchased only at the Auburn Museum at the beginning of the tour. Children under 12 are free. Proceeds will be utilized for
the continued preservation of the museum.
Homes on this year’s tour will be two belonging to Grover and Mary Corum, 163 and 167 N. Lincoln Street, and the home of Jeremy and Stephanie Loveall, 239 Viers Streetm which was the home in the mid-19th century of early Auburn leader John Viers

Tilghman scores in final minute to edge Panthers
Russellville led visiting Paducah Tilghman 14-3 going into the final quarter Friday, but the Blue Tornado completed a touchdown pass with 52 seconds
remaining to win 17-14 in the state 3A quarterfinals. The defending state champions benefited from the officials calling a sidelines violation against
the Panthers with slightly over a minute remaining, converting a 4tsh and 1 for the Blue Tornado.

Lee Proctor resigns as Cougar football coach
Lee Proctor
, who has coached Logan County football longer than anyone else in team history, has resigned his coaching position, various outlets are reporting. The
Cougars finished 1-9 this year and went 32-84 in his 11 seasons as coach. Proctor was the first Cougar football player to get a college scholarship and
was an assistant coach for the school before becoming head coach.

A Voter Rally will be held Monday on the square in Russellville 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is a non-partisan event, to encourage voters to get out and vote
Nov. 2. All candidates (Republican, Democrat, write-in and non-partisan) may bring their signs and hold them up. "We want people to vote; this is just

Panthers triple Cougars 60-21 in Clash of the Cats
The Russellville Panthers (7-3) used their quickness to beat the Logan County Cougars 60-21 Friday.Quarterback D.J. Quarles had 223 total yards
and was part of five touchdowns. Zach Hines and Victor Hampton each scored twice. Davonta Bryant ran for almost 100 yards. The
Cougar offense started strong with John Logan Dockins throwing a pair of touchdown passes to Cody Thurston. A PAT byJustin Rone
gave Logan a 13-12 lead after a quarter, but by the half RHS led 41-13. Dockins was 13 of 24 passing for 153 yards. The end of Logan's 1-9 season came
with the school being penalized for not have a chain crew for downs markers, Coach Lee Proctor being ejected, and the defense giving up 60 points for
the third straight game and 49 or more in 5 of the last 6 games.

RMS Panthers reach state football Final Four
This past Saturday saw Russellville Middle School Football putting on a clinic. Electricity was in the air for great football action. It was just a
year ago that Russellville found themselves in the same situation and looked destined for Lexington but came up short. These young, inexperienced
Panthers rose to the occasion this year. Caverna, which was missing three of their all state players in the first game when they played Russellville,
was poised to come in and give Russellville all they could handle. “Caverna is a good football team, which ended the year 6-3," said RMS coach Toby Baptiste, whose team won 40-0
Russellville dominated on offense, putting up 320 yards of total offense. Trey Patterson had 7 carries for 86 yards and 2 TDs and Desmon Quarles 11 for 58 for 2 more.. Coco Darden went 5-9 passing for 102 yards with Jake Proctor catching two of those for 50
yards total. The offensive line blocked well. Bubba Duncan scoring on a 28-yard pass from Darden, who put the game away on a 75-yard
interception returned back for a TD. Defensive Captain Quarles had the wrecking crew firing on all cylinders.

Electric Love Bomb to play KISS concert in Franklin
On Friday, Oct. 29, the rock band Electric Love Bomb will perform as a KISS tribute band at Franklin's Goodnight Memorial Auditorium. The
Russellville-oriented band's members are Jared Decker (guitar and vocals), Lejoe Young (drums), Scott Simpson (bass & vocals) and Travis McIntosh (vocals and guitar). Jared, Lejoe and Scott are all members of Travis Tritt's current touring road band . The band will
perform a complete two-hour set of KISS music in makeup and costume for their Halloween celebration. Tickets are $7 a person, and $10 per couple at the

Rally from 5-6:30 p.m. A Spirit Stick Award will be based on Car Decorations, Signs, Wearing of School Colors, Face Painting, and any other display of
school spirit. All football players from both schools who played during the Clash years from 1988-present will be recognized. LCHS and RHS bands will

Miles Farm Supply sells fertilizer, equipment divisions
Employees of the fertilizer division of Miles Farm Supply have been notified that the Owensboro-based company's fertilizer division has been sold to
Agrium, which operates Crop Production Services plants in 48 states, including one in Russellville. Miles has three local fertilizer sites,
Russellville Crop Services, Schochoh Crop Service and Allenville Crop Service. Miles employees say the change should come in mid-November but that they
know little about long-range plans. Miles has also sold its equipment division
to Owensboro-based Ohio Valley Ag, whose only other location is just off the Russellville bypass.
UAW ratifies new 3-year contract with Sensus
UAW members of Sensus Precision Die Casting in Russellville have ratified a new three-year contract, according to UAW International Representative Tim Smith, who was involved in the negotiations. He said the vote was 119-49 to accept the contract. Sensus is in the original location of
Rockwell Manufacturing Company.

Auburn Community Health Clinic accepting patients

, director of business development at Logan Memorial Hospital, has announced that the Auburn Community Health Clinic is now open and accepting new
patients of all ages, infant through geriatrics. The clinic will treat illnesses and minor injuries, perform physicals and give immunizations. The
office of Nurse Practitioner Stacia Washer is located in Auburn on 68/80 near Subway. Walk-ins are welcome and most insurance types accepted.

Fund established to aid wounded Auburn soldier
An account has been established at Auburn Banking Co. to aid the family of an Auburn soldier who has been seriously wounded . J. D. 'Jack' Williams was the lead in a Scout patrol in Afghanistan and stepped on an explosive device. He is currently in Germany being made
well enough to travel to Walter Reed Army Hospital where he will eventually be fitted for artificial limbs. Donations can be made at the Auburn Minit
Mart where his wife Ashlee is a manager or at Auburn Bank locations in Auburn and Russellville

Dockins' event postponed, but outlook for wife good
A reception honoring Frank Dockins Jr. planned at Bethany Church of Christ this Sunday has been postponed. Dockins has preached on behalf of the
church Sunday mornings on WRUS for almost 55 years. His wife, Davy Lee Dockins, suffered a serious stroke early Saturday and was in critical
condition. Her condition was much improved Monday, however, and she was able to talk with family.

Panthers clinch 3 A district; Cougars eliminated in 4A
With a 49-22 win over Adair County Friday, the Russellville Pan-thers (5-3 overall, 3-0 district) clinched the top seed in their Class 3A district,
regardless of what they do against the visiting Butler Bears next week. Edmonson County would also be 3-1, but the Panthers have a win over them.
Meanwhile with a 61-12 loss to undefeated Allen County-Scottsville, the Logan County Cougars (1-7. 0-3) cannot make the 4A playoffs, even if they beat
Franklin-Simpson (4-4, 2-1 this week. The best they could do is tie Warren East (2-7, 1-3) for the fourth spot, and East (2-7, 1-3) would take the
tiebreaker.

State champion Panthers of '80 to be honored
Plans are to honor Russellville's first state champion football team later this season. Team member Tim Allen reports that the 1980
team's 30th anniversary will be observed at Ken Barrett Field on Oct. 22 when RHS plays Butler County. A tent will be set up out-side Rhea Stadium.
Team members, cheerleaders and coaches are asked to start gathering at 5 p.m. Allen would like to hear from anyone who can attend at 270-221-0358.
RHS legacies playing in state golf tournaments

was the youngest player in the girls state golf tournament for the second year in a row. The fifth grader from Scott County finished 72nd in the
Leachman/KHSAA State Tournament at Bowling Green Country Club. She is the daughter of RHS graduateCarrie Milam Lovell and her husband Jonathan
and the granddaughter of Joe and Sheryl Milam of Lewisburg. Meanwhile juniorDrake Duncan will lead South Warren's first team to state
Friday. The former Greenwood standout is the son of David Duncan, a former RHS golfer, and the grandson of Buddy and Mattie Duncan of
Russellville.

Lady Cougars win 8th straight district v'ball title
Matches were so lopsided in the 13th District volleyball tournament Tuesday that Logan County had already won its 8th consecutive championship before
the finals were scheduled to begin. The Lady Cougars (24-12) beat Todd Central (5-22) and Russellville (16-18) beat Franklin-Simpson (2-26), both in
two games, to start the evening. Then Logan won the title in straight games over the Lady Panthers. Both teams will play in next week's regional on
defending champion Greenwood's home court. Logan has not lost to RHS, Todd or Franklin-Simpson since falling to F-S in three games on Aug. 17, 2004 in
the first match of that season
Gospel singing this afternoon at Crittenden Drive
The 3rd Annual Gospel Singing at Crittenden Drive Church of Christ in Russellville will be held Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Steve McCarley, Frank Walton and Todd Walker will be the leaders of acappela congregational singing with hundreds of voices blending together.

Auburn soldier seriously injured in Afghanistan
On Saturday morning, an Auburn soldier was seriously wounded. J. D. 'Jack' Williams was the lead in a Scout patrol in Afghanistan and stepped on
an explosive device, injuring him seriously. His wife, Ashlee Duncan Williams, is the assistant manager of the Minit Mart in Auburn. They have
an 11-month old daughter named Kaelyn. J.D. is stationed at Fort Campbell. He is expected to be transported to Walter Reed Army Hospital this
week, A Facebook page called "We love you Jack Williams" has also been created.
Burkes Outlet's Russellville store open for sales
The opening was unannounced and the location is not yet shown on the corporate website, but the chain retailer Brukes outlet has been open for business
this weekend in Russellville. The store is located in the former Goody's building. near Mighty Dollar.

Magistrate Dickie Carter to run as write-in
First District Magistrate Dickie Carter plans to file the paperwork this week as a write-in candidate for that same office in the November
general election. Carter lost to fruit and vegetable broker Russell Poore by 12 votes for the Democratic nomination in May. He says he has been
told by several people who live in the district that they didn't bother to vote in the primary because they thought he would win so easily. He also
believes many Logan Countians will not vote the straight Democratic ticket in this election and that the use of paper ballots now should help write-in
candidates.

Cougar Will McKenzie qualifies for state golf

has become only the third boys golfer in Logan County High School history to qualify for the KHSAA State Tournament. He fired a 2-over-par 74 for fifth
place overall at the Regional Tournament at Kenny Perry's Country Creek Golf Course in Franklin Tuesday. The other two Cougars to qualify were Kelley Jordan, who graduated in 2003, and J.T. Richardson, Class of ’07.
D.J. Quarles in running for state player of week

Fund raiser being organized for Myers' brother
The brother of former Logan County High School Spanish teacher Touria Myers (and the brother-in-law of LCHS chemistry teacher Sam Myers)
needs a liver transplant. Their friends have decided to hold a fund raiser, the Festival of Hope, Oct. 16 at Bowling Green High School from 2-6: p.m.

Mayor Zick resigns, Neil Kerr named city attorney

resigned as mayor of Russellville at Tuesday's council meeting, WRUS News reports. The resignation is effective next week, Sept. 30, three months
before his term would have ended. The council has 30 days after that to name a replacement. Also the council voted to employ Neil Kerr as city
attorney, replacing Bob Hedges, who had resigned earlier. Kerr announced he will not continue his candidacy for the council, WRUS reports.

Logan goes 8-0 in Cougar Challenge v'ball, now 18-2
The Logan County Lady Cougars won their own 12-team volleyball tournament this weekend, going 8-0. Logan beat Green County, Warren East and
Elizabethtown twice, with the finals against E'town lasting until about 11 p.m., about the same time Friday's action ended. The win improved the team's
record to 18-2. Logan's freshman team won the Silver Bracket of a ninth graders' event at Owensboro Apollo.

Brown elected Logan's first female Farm Bureau head

was elected the first woman president of Logan County Farm Bureau at Saturday's annual meeting. She and her husband Bradley have been workers for the

came on with the bases loaded and struck out three Indiana Spikes batters in a 3-1 victory by the Southern KY Sluggers' 11-and-under team in the
D&B Fall Slam in Hopkinsville recently. The team went 4-0 for their second straight champion-ship. Other team members are Austin Rayno, Jackson Campbell, Kaleb Justice, D.J. Beard, Jordan Blick, Jackson Steward, Nick Wooden, Tanner Baldwin, Koby Wall and Gage Ward.

The Logan County Cougars built a 14-0 first-quarter lead but lost their third straight game at Webster County 28-22 Friday. Todd Haleyand Justin Rone scored the touchdowns and Brice Moore caught the conversion pass. East used three long screen passes and took advantages of
the Cougars' lack of ball control late in the second quarter to take the lead... Warren East scored the first seven times it had the ball on the way to
a 49-24 win over unin-spired Russellville (1-2).

Football classes to change for local schools
Coaches of local high school teams expect their classifications to change in the future. Principal/Coach John Myers says Russellville has filed
paperwork for Class A in upcoming seasons. RHS is in its fourth year of "playing up" in Class 3A and has met the state champion two of those years in
the later rounds of the playoffs. Logan County Coach Lee Proctor says the Cougars will probably have to move up to 5A because of increased
enrollment.

Panthers sting Hornets 52-12 in Pigskin Classic

had a big game as 9 Panthers scored in Russellville's 52-12 win over Metcalfe County in the Pigskin Classic at Franklin Saturday. Quarles threw 3 TD
passes and ran for another, totaling 226 yards. Also scoring 6 were Davonta Bryant, Layton Bush, Zac Hines, Antonio Todd, Kevin Temple, Demarcus Hampton & Victor Hampton. Travez Hampton kicked 3 PATs. The
Panthers totaled 454 yards and held the Hornets to 95 yards total offense.
Greenwood dominates distressed Cougars
A strong Greenwood team dominated the emotionally stressed Logan County Cougars 45-0 Friday. Zack Pillow, son of former RHS center Hayden Pillow, and Jeremy James, nephew of Auburn teacher Karen Hughes, led the Gator defense in the shutout. The Cougars
will be honorary pallbearers as will the track team at the funeral of former teammate Thomas Washington Saturday afternoon at Townsend Grove

Lee Dockins chosen for International Olympics again
Logan County High School graduate Lee Dockins has been named to the U.S. team which will compete in the International Special Olympics Games in
Athens, Greece in 2011. She recently earned five gold medals in gymnastics at the Kentucky Special Olympics. Dockins earlier competed in the
international games in China. She is coached by Logan County Gymastics' Donnie Porter.

Two city councils races and one school board seat that has drawn two candidates join the contested races on the November general election ballot. Ten
people are running for Auburn Council: Jesse Duer, Rex Evans, Gayle Gregory, Michael Hughes, Jim Kutzman, Norma Kutzman, Steve Montgomery, Bobby Price and Tim Williams along with

Actors, extras needed for Pepsi video Monday
On Monday, Aug. 16, Main Street Russellville will be filming a Pepsi Refresh Project Video at the 4th Street Theater. Actors and extras of all ages are
needed to be a part of the video. "We need enough people to fill the auditorium of the old theater," says Main Street Director Darlene Gooch.

Center Baptist homecomers visit Thomas home
A pilgrimage back in time…a new generation revisits a piece of the past. Part of the congregation from Center Baptist Church in South Union took a step
back into the past Sunday, Aug. 1 as part of the church’s homecoming. Members of the congregation drove back to the home of Herbert and Lynne Thomas of South Union to revisit a part of their past and to show the present generation where the roots of their church were
buried the deepest.
The Thomases' present home sits on the original foundation of Center Baptist Church and from these beginnings a church strong in faith and ever mindful
of the Lord's word was formed. According to information from Catherine McCutchen, Center Baptist Church was organized in 1880. The ground to
build the church on was donated by Mrs. Fannie McCutchen. The old well that the church members drank from is still a working well. The church
members were treated to cold, clear water from the same well that their ancestors drank from on Sunday mornings.
In 1945 the original church building was disassembled board by board and rebuilt on the present site on land donated by a church member, Deacon
Southerland. "As their host, I was pleased to have met these wonderful people from this congregation," Lynne Thomas says. Their visit was closed with a
word of prayer and a reading from the book of Lamentations.

Sluggers 16U team on 17-game win streak
The Logan County-based Kentucky Sluggers take their 17-game win streak into action this weekend in a tournament in Bardstown. They have won two
tournaments this month. Three team members are at the 15-year-old regional. They are players Ryan Basham, Dustin Cartas and Thomas Miller. The
Sluggers lost the opening game of the season and have won every game since.
Former Lewisburg principal gets top honor

State champ Logan Babe Ruth to play in West Va.
A lengthy rain delay and a deficit on the scoreboard didn't stop the Logan Babe Ruth 15-year-old stars from winning their state title Monday at
Glasgow. A game that was supposed to start at 6 p.m. got underway at 8:30 after 2.5 tons of soil drier were applied. The Logan team led 4-1, but
Henderson took a lead before Logan won 10-6. The team now travels to Clarksburg, W.Va. for Ohio Valley Region play this weekend. See the team's picture

The Pam American Shotgun Competition is underway in the Mammoth Cave area. Retired General Jerry Humble and his wife Margaretof
Russellville are among the owners of the Rockdale Shooting Center. Headquarters for the international event are at Park Mammoth Resort, which the

Tech school principal resigns, succeeds dad

has resigned as principal of the Russellville Area Technical School to become principal of Muhlenberg South Elementary School. He succeeds his dad, Joe Wells, who has retired after serving for decades as an administrator in the Muhlenberg County schools, including Lake Malone Elementary.
Grayson Wells is a 1990 graduate of Logan County High School.

A plant which would process raw materials for Logan Aluminum has been offered state tax incentives to locate in Logan County, the Park City Daily News
reports. Magpro of Kentucky would em-ploy 40 people in the processing of magnesium after a $14 million investment. The newspaper says Magpro, which

The city of Russellville will hold its July 4 observance Monday, July 5 at 10 a.m. in Carico Park Square. Special speakers will be Joe Harlan of
Adairville and his son, Joe Michael Harlan of Russellville. Both will speak on their time in the military. The younger Harlan served in the
Green Berets.
