Panthers run record to 9-0,

capture 23rd district title

Leading 49-7 at the half, the Russellville Panthers beat visiting Crittenden County by that score Friday, running their record to 9-0 and winning the Class 1A Region I, District 1 championship in the process. According to team historian Greg Owens, this is the 23rd district title for RHS and the first time a Panther team has been undefeated after nine games since 1984. Russellville will attempt to complete an unbeaten season Friday against visiting Franklin-Simpson, which is also undefeated. Owens says only three other teams have gone without a loss in the 82-year history of Russellville football. They were the 1950, '66 and '84 teams coached by Jimmy Haynes, Stumpy Baker and Ken Barrett, respectively. John Myers is the current Panther coach.
