Jennifer Myers, assistant principal of Russellville Junior/Senior High School, will be the new principal at Highland Elementary School in Glasgow, it was announced Friday by the Glasgow schools.

Myers has 23 years of experience as an educator, working in several school systems including Metcalfe County, Barren County, Calloway County and most recently Russellville Independent.

She has lived in Russellville for 13 years, ever since her husband John was named head football coach for the Panthers. For the past three years, she has been assistant principal at Russellville Junior/Senior High School.

Russellville Jr/Sr High houses grades six through twelve. Kim McDaniel is principal for both the junior and senior high schools. The middle school assistant principal has extensive responsibility for grades six through eight in this system, which has given  Jennifer Myers training for the position she is assuming in the Glasgow schools.

Meanwhile John Myers is one of four finalists for the superintendency of Russellville Schools. He holds two titles in the Central Office in addition to being football coach.

Sources tell The Logan Journal that the Myerses will maintain homes in both Russellville and Glasgow. They have two children, Ellie and John Carter Myers.

This is a time of great transition in the Russellville schools. Highly respected Superintendent Leon Allen is retiring. McDaniel, who has done admirable work as RHS principal the past five years, has recently been promoted to the central office as director of pupil personnel. Now the search will begin for a third key administrator to replace Jennifer Myers.

If John Myers becomes superintendent, his wife could not have been the high school principal because of anti-nepotism regulations. Mrs. Myers is a native of Metcalfe County in an adjoining county to Glasgow, and she has a large number of family members in the area, including her parents.

Changes at RHS include the system’s most successful basketball coach in its history, Phil Todd, retiring for a second time, and his top assistant, Ryan Davenport, giving up his basketball coaching duties to work on his masters degree. Guidance counselor Rex  Booth will continue in that roll while becoming head basketball coach. There are openings for middle school boys basketball coaches, too.

If John Myers becomes superintendent, he will most likely relinquish his football coaching duties, which will also open one of the most visible positions in the city schools.

“I have heard great things about Highland,” Jennifer Myers Told the Glasgow Daily Times. “I can feel the great things. I've seen the great things. And I'm just so excited to be a part of that.

“I know that this school is very student-oriented and family-oriented and that's exactly what I want to be a part of. That's exactly my philosophy as well.”

Myers said when she initially visited Highland, “it felt like home the minute I walked in.”

Keith Hale, current principal of Glasgow High School and soon-to-be superintendent of Glasgow Independent Schools, said Myers has “extensive elementary experience” and that the school district is “fortunate to have her expertise.”

Hale said when he made his first call to Russellville to inquire about Myers, “that person spoke about her caring for kids, her owning the school.”

Myers will be replacing Amy Allen, who will be replacing Hale as principal of GHS.
