The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science, a dual-credit high school program located on the campus of Western Kentucky University, has announced that 95 new students have been chosen to participate in this prestigious school as members of the Class of 2019. We are thrilled to report that one of our students, Ms. Anna Shoulders, has been announced as one of the newest members of the Gatton Academy Class of 2019.

Anna, a Russellville High School Sophomore from Adairville, is the daughter of Maxwell and Lana Shoulders. We are so proud of her accomplishments and wish Anna the best of luck in her new adventures at WKU’s Gatton Academy.

Anna will join another RHS student, Phillip Wilkerson, as he is a Gatton Academy member of the Class of 2018. Phillip, the son of Steven and Donna Wilkerson, has also been recently notified that he has been selected to participate in The University of Alabama in Huntsville and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center Heliophysics Summer Research Opportunity for Undergraduates.

During this time, Phillip, who is 1 of only 10 students chosen, will travel to Huntsville, Ala. for 10 weeks to engage in cutting edge heliophysics research with astrophysicists from UAH or NASA. Students in this program will be paired with mentors specializing in heliophysics research from the solar interior to the heliopause: including theory, modeling, computer simulations, data analysis and instrument design. At the end of the 10-week program, participants will be required to present their research experience. Partial Funding (up to $1000) will be provided to attend the fall meeting of the American Geophysical Union in San Francisco, Cal.

Congratulations to both Anna and Phillip on their accomplishments!!!
