The Logan County High School Music department returned to the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center to deliver its annual Winter Concert on Dec. 5. This year, the school’s Jazz Band, Concert Choir, and Symphonic Band took parts in a production that will provide lasting memories, not only for the performers, but also to everyone who was privileged to be able to make the half-hour trek to Bowling Green’s arts facility.

The show opened with the Jazz Band playing five selections that included “Jingle Bell Rock”, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and an upbeat Brazilian inspired tune “Bossa Maderia”. Next up, the Concert Choir performed five selections including “Gleeful Christmas”, the Leonard Cohen classic “Hallelujah”, and finished with “Cantate Domino,” a song sung entirely in Latin.

The Symphonic Band was the last to perform, offering seven selections including traditional Christmas classic “Sleigh Ride”, “Blue Christmas”, and “Charlie Brown Christmas”. A highlight of the Symphonic Band’s show was “A Tribute to Winter,” which was a composition created by senior French hornist Brayden Yates. The composition was written for the band’s symphony with parts inclusive of all of the band’s musical sections.

Directors for this special occasion were LCHS Director of Bands, Mr. David Dayton and student teacher Mr. Steven Teleky.
