Logan Middle softball tryouts set
Logan County High School announces the dates for Middle School Softball Tryouts on the LCHS softball field June 11-12.; All trying out must have a completed KHSAA Sports Physical with them at the day of tryouts. Physical forms can be found at any of the middle schools or in the front office of the high school. Any questions, please contact Coach Michael Crawford at 270-772-4037. Make up dates are June 18 and 19.

Purples end Cougar season
Logan County pitching was no mystery to the Bowling Green Purples on Memorial Day. BGH hitters picked up nine runs on ten hits in a 9-0 win in the Fourth Region baseball tournament at WKU. Koby Wall, Dylan Penick & Riley Ferguson worked on the mound for the 13th District champs. BGH pitcher Ben Ginter allowed only four hits and a walk. Braxton Meguiar accounted for two of the hits with Third Bell & Kaleb Justice picking up the other two singles. Wall worked the lone walk off Ginter. Joe Howard doubled and tripled among his four hits for the Purples.

Walk and error cause Lady
Cougars' 1-0 regional loss
A beautifully pitched game by both teams came to an unhappy ending for the Logan County Lady Cougars in the regional softball tournament Monday. Logan’s Sydney Lee and Allen County-Scottsville’s Kris Anne Perdue went into the seventh inning pitching shutout ball. LCHS threatened in the top of the inning when Rosie Kerchenski doubled with two outs, but Perdue struck out Pressley Harris to send the game into the bottom of the final inning. Lee walked Jae McReynolds, who scored the game’s lone run on a sacrifice, a stolen base, and then a walk-off Lady Cougar error. Just as Logan caused itself to play a 23-win team by committing walks and errors in the district finals, miscues cost them the chance to advance in the regional, too. Lee pitched a two-hitter and lost. The only other Lady Cougar to reach second was KJ Page. She singled and moved up on Brea Croslin’s walk, but that was as far as she could get. Coach Mark Wood’s team finished 17-11.

Lady Cougars to open region against AC-S
The Logan County Lady Cougars (17-10) will open Fourth Region softball play Monday morning at 11 when Coach Mark Wood’s team goes against 15th District champion Allen County-Scottsville (23-10) at WKU. The teams have played twice this year with each winning once. Monday’s winner will meet the South Warren-Russell County survivor in Tuesday’s semifinals at 6 p.m. The championship game is scheduled Wednesday at 6:30.

Regional baseball to feature
13th-14th district match-ups
The region’s top two baseball districts have drawn each other in the Fourth Region Tournament. 13th District champion Logan County (24-8) will play 14th District runner-up Bowling Green (18-11) at 6:15 p.m. at WKU’s Nick Denes Field. They split a pair of games during the regular season. 13th District runner-up Franklin-Simpson will face 14th District champ South Warren at 12:15 Monday. They both have 24-11 records and split their meetings in the last two weeks of the season. With a win, Logan would play Tuesday at 7 p.m., probably against Barren County. The championship game is scheduled at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Logan and Franklin met in last year’s finals.

Seven Logan tracksters named Academic All State
From Athletic Director Greg Howard: Logan County High School is proud to announce Gage Cousineau, Monica Hines, Sawyer Hopkins, Evan Hughes, Meredith Johnson, John Hendricks, and Tanner Morrow have all earned KHSAA Academic All-State. In order to qualify they must have competed at the State Track and Field Meet and had a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Congratulations to these athletes for competing well at the state meet and also in the classroom at a high level.

Cougars beat F-S for district title
In a game befitting the quality of the two premier baseball programs in the Fourth Region, Coach Ethan Meguiar's Logan County Cougars edged host Franklin-Simpson 3-2 for the 13th District championship Wednesday night. Last year's regional finalist teams, this was the third meeting of the year for the perennial powerhouses. They had split on the regular season. They have met seven times in the last two springs with Logan holding a 4-3 advantage. Sixteenth District champion Russell County joins them with region-leading win totals of 24.

Winners named in Tuesday's primary elections
Winners in Logan County's primary elections were as follows: Neil Kerr, Stephen Stratton, Dickie Carter, Tyler Davenport, Jack Crossley, Dale Givens, Robert Earl Chyle, and a tie between Boyce Coles and Barry Perkins. Paul Walker took a big margin from Logan into a multi-county race. A story with vote totals will follow on The LoJo.

Cougars and F-S to meet in both district finals
From Logan County Athletic Director Greg Howard: Congratulations to LCHS softball and baseball teams on their district tournament wins last night in Franklin. Baseball defeated Russellville in 5 inning 10-0 and will face Franklin-Simpson in the 13th District Championship game tonight at 6 p.m. Softball defeated Russellville 6-4 to advance to the 13th District Championship also against Franklin-Simpson. That game is slated for first pitch at 5:30 p.m. Come out and support these fine teams and fill the stands as they both attempt to win district championships.

Final auditions for Lion King
set tonight at deGraffenried
The final tryouts for parts in the Russellville Arts Council Summer Youth Drama Camp’s presentation of The Lion King Jr. will be held tonight (Tuesday) at deGraffenried Auditorium from 6-8:30 p.m. The camp will be held June 25-29, Performances will be presented Friday, June 29, at 7 p.m. and Saturday at the same time with a matinee on Saturday at 3 p.m. Most of the cast will practice during camp although those with major roles will have a few earlier practices.

Charlie Roney preaches final Russellville sermon
Some 35 years after he preached his first sermon as minister of Crittenden Drive Church of Christ, Charles Roney may have spoken from the church's pulpit for the last time Sunday. Roney became the congregation's preacher in March 1983. He served in that capacity for 18 years, more that twice as long as anyone else before or since. He also has helped lead Russellville Christian School, served on RHS' first Site Based Decision Making Council, helped lead the Russellville Band Boosters, served as a Crittenden Drive elder after his retirement, and was the first preacher in some 75 years to be elected president of Russellville Rotary Club. He and his wife, retired public school teacher Pat Roney, are moving to Colorado where their daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Tim Mester, have lived for several years. Roney filled in today for Scott Harp, the congregation's current minister who is recovering from knee surgery.

Funeral set today for long-time
banker Betty Lou Wright
Funeral services for one of Logan County's longest tenured bank employees will be held this afternoon. Betty Lou Williamson Wright, 71, worked for Citizens National Bank/First Southern National Bank in Russellville for 53 years, starting soon after her graduation from Russellville High School in 1964. For several years she had been Head Teller. She is survived by her husband, Doug Wright, children Scott Wright & Beth Kennedy and their spouses, sister Patsy Thomas, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at Second Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. before the 3 p.m. funeral.

Varsity/JV starting at 5:30 at South Warren... The baseball game with Warren East this Friday will now be played at LCHS. This is a varsity only game scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. first pitch.

The Southern Ky Pastfinders will meet Saturday, May 19, 7 p.m. at the Logan County Public Library. This month's program will be presented by Rebecca Brummett, Curator of Community Engagement at South Union Shaker Village. Her program is entitled "Family conflict, the Women of Wessyngton". She will be exploring the lives of the women who lived in the great house at Wessyngton plantation in Robertson County, Tenn. during the antebellum period. These women have many ancestors living in our area today. The public is invited and admission is free.

The Logan County High School Golf Scramble will be held at Rolling Hills Golf Course on Saturday, June 2, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams and for the longest drive and closest to the pin. Standout Logan County archer Taylor Haley will sign to be a member of the Campbellsville University archery team Wednesday, May 16, at 3:30 p.m. at the Logan County Career and Technical Center, according to her parents, Todd and Amy Haley. She finished second in the state archery tournament last year.

TSC to hold Market Day in Russellville
Homegrown and homemade items will be for sale in the parking lot of the Russellville Tractor Supply Center (TSC) this Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. TSC stores throughout a wide area are holding Market Day. Flowers and plants will be available along with homemade soaps, lotions, balms, etc. Also expect to find homemade foods and other creations. Sellers are welcome to set up, but this is neither a yard sale nor a franchised vendor sale. It's for items that have been grown or made by the seller. John Hendricks breaks Cougar track record
From Logan County track coach Greg Howard: Congratulations to LCHS Junior track runner John Hendricks. Last week John broke the school record in the 3200M run (2 mile). He ran a time of 10:02.91, breaking the old record of 10:05.80, set by Logan County great, Justin Groves. Groves set the record in 2002 at the Clarksville Kenwood Classic. Groves continued his historic running career at WKU. Congratulations to John on such a great accomplishment.

Stratton to punt for national finalist Georgia
Logan County High and Murray State graduate Landon Stratton announced Sunday that he will spend his graduate transfer year as a member of the Georgia Bulldogs of the SEC. Coach Kirby Smart's team was national runner-up to Alabama last season. Stratton, who punted steadily and sensationally for the Racers the last three years, had earlier committee to Houston Baptist, a mid-major team that doesn't have a history of winning. Now he will be part of one of the greatest programs in college football history. Coaching legend Tinsley to coach Cougars
John Tinsley, one of this area's most successful basketball coaches over the decades, will be introduced at a public ceremony Wednesday as the new head coach of the Logan County Cougars, Athletic Director Greg Howard has announced. He succeeds Lonnie Mason, who coached Logan the last six years. Tinsley has over 30 years coaching experience and has taken his teams to eight state tournaments. He has coached Glasgow, Russell County, Hancock County and Barren County to well over 300 victories. He also has been highly successful in travel ball and has coached a number of international teams. He scouts young players in Las Vegas and has worked for the NBA's Miami Heat. The introduction will be at LCHS at 2:30 p.m. and the public is welcome.

Cougar Grand March offers
place, time for prom photos
Cougar Grand March, sponsored by LC Baseball Boosters, will be held in the Logan County Main Gymnasium, Saturday, May 12, beginning at 4 p.m. It will give family, friends, and community members an opportunity to view and photograph prom attendees as they are announced and make their way to photography points, stopping momentarily on both sides of the gym. Cost is $2 per person—a ticket gate will be at the main entrance of the high school. Proceeds will benefit the baseball team, with hopes of making this an annual event.
