It’s STAR time again! This upcoming week, students will be taking their first STAR benchmark tests. Students take the STAR test several times throughout the year in Reading and Math and use them to see how they are doing. This week’s benchmark tests are important because they only happen three times during the year and are useful in showing how students might perform on bigger assessments later in the spring. The benchmark tests happening this week are a great opportunity for students to start setting goals and tracking their progress.

A New School Year

Russellville Independent Schools 21st Century Center

Russellville Independent Schools is hoping to make personalized learning and the latest technology the centerpiece of its new 21st Century Center (R21C). Workers have renovated a 33,000-square-foot regional technology center next to the district’s junior and senior high school. The recent opening of the new Logan County Area Technology Center freed up space at the building. The newly renovated R21C includes a Sixth-Grade Academy, a cafe-style space for high school seniors and an academy for science, technology, engineering, art and math, or STEAM academy. The space for high school seniors offers an opportunity to experience transitioning to adulthood in a coffee house-like environment. New graduation requirements in the district are promoting student internships and end-of-year senior exhibitions. The front of the building houses the sixth-grade academy, which features a multipurpose space and commons area with a more modern decor, TVs and nontraditional seating. The space allows for collaboration, according to district instructional coach Cassie Reding, who’s overseeing the academy. This was inspired by Warren County Public Schools’ 212 Academy. This will be in use for many years to come. Go Panthers!!! (By Hannah Alford)

Football Scrimmage:

Thursday night, Aug. 9, the Panthers scrimmaged the South Warren Patriots in preparation for the upcoming 2018 season. Due to the fact it was a scrimmage, the score was not kept and therefore is unknown. Even with the lack of a score, the Panthers’ determination and resilience was demonstrated throughout the night.
