8th of August celebration this

weekend at Hampton Park

"Living the Legend" is the theme for the annual 8th of August Celebration in Russellville, which will be held this weekend with Hampton Park the central location. The Little Miss/Mister Pageant will be held Friday, beginning at 6 p.m., at the Logan County Courthouse for boys and girls up to age 10. Saturday's activites include a Run Walk, a Golf/Scramble, a parade and lots of food and fellowship. The deadline for entering the golf scramble with a handicap is Tuesday. Former Columbine principal DeAngelis

to speak to Logan educators on Monday

The man who was principal of Columbine High School during the mass shootings on April 20, 1999, will be the featured speaker for faculty and staff on the first day of Professional Development at Logan County High School Monday, Frank DeAngelis, who continued in that role for 15 more years, survived shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold pointing their shotguns in his direction. He is in demand now as a consultant on school safety. After his speech concludes, DeAngelis is scheduled to meet with select shool and community leaders. Logan County Schools open for students this Wednesday, Aug. 1.

RHS Alumni Soccer Game scheduled

Logan Telephone's Annual

Meeting scheduled Aug, 3

The Logan Telephone Cooperative Annual Meeting will be held Friday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. at Logan County High School. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. to be followed by the business meeting where you will elect members to represent you on the board of directors and will be introduced to the scholarship winners. After the business meeting, refreshments will be served and a drawing will be held for cash and prizes for adults and children. Each member present will receive free gifts. All members of Logan Telephone Cooperative are cordially invited to attend.

Lost River Creamery to rebuild

after fire destroys cheese plan

One of Logan County’s most popular family-owned small businesses experienced a devastating fire at its cheese manufacturing plant that left a pile of rubble and several fond memories. After praising firefighters and others who came to help Friday night and Saturday, Lost River Creamery owners Scott and Angie Harris announced Sunday on Facebook: “Our little town is truly compassionate and the outpouring of love and support that we’ve already received is overwhelming. We will rebuild our cheese plant and be even better than before. Our customers are like family to us and we feel that we owe it to them and to ourselves to endure this minor setback so that we can once again create a product that is loved by many.”

Work underway on Franklin Road

Road improvements on the Franklin Road (KY 100) are underway from the Logan County line to KY 1008 in Simpson County, Crews will be present to continue work on a resurfacing and curve improvement project in the area. Work will continue on pipe replacements for the project. Flaggers will be used at various stages of the project and motorists should use caution when traveling the area.

Church to provide Back to School

Bash at Olmstead Open House

Dripping Spring Church will host a Back to School Bash the night of Olmstead School's Open House. This will be in front of the school. Church members will have inflatables and school supplies, and will be cooking out hotdogs. July 30, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Principal Bonnie Watson says, "We are blessed by our community support systems!"

RHS Scocer Alumni Game

to be played on Aug. 4

From Haley Browning Jayne: Russellville Soccer is hosting an alumni soccer game on the Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. Alumni will play this year's current varsity team. The fee is $20 to participate, which gets you a cool new shirt and a load of laughs along with some temporary body aches. Come out and help this program raise some money for new equipment. Spectators are welcomed at $3 a head. Where else in Russellville are you gonna get so much entertainment in a Saturday evening? Game is to be held at the soccer field behind RHS

Mark Griffin to speak to PastFinders

From David Guion: The Southern Ky Pastfinders will meet Saturday, July 21 at 7 p.m.at the Logan County Public Library. Mark Griffin, reference librarian at the library, will talk about a series of articles he found recently that were published in the local newspaper in 1919 under the title, "Memories of an Elderly Man."  The elderly man had been a boy in Keysburg during the Civil War and he recounted the events he witnessed, such as the killing of  Edward Small, his admiration for local guerilla chieftain James Perkins, and his involvement in a pursuit of a runaway slave named Bill. The public is invited and the admission is free, so don't let history be a mystery, come learn with us.

Young Auburn baseball team now 4-0 at state

The Auburn baseball 8U all-star team is 4-0 in their state tournament. They've beaten Elizabethtown, Barren County, Lietchfield, and Meade County by a combined 49-9. They play the winner of Owensboro and Hancock County at 11 a.m. today.

Kickin' It With Korbin Benefit set Aug. 18

A benefit motorcycle ride for a teen with brain cancer has been scheduled at Auburn's McCutchen-Coke Park Saturday, Aug. 18. The Kickin' It With Korbin Benefit is for Korbin Scruggs, a 16-year-old from Auburn with a cancerous brain tumor. It will include a benefit motorcyle ride ($10 per person, $15 per couple), silent auction, bake sale, inflatables and games for the kids, cornhole tournament and food along with live muisc by Changing Direction and Bueler's Day off. Chamber helping stage Logan

Night at Hot Rods Saturday

The Logan County Chamber of Commerce is orchestrating Logan County Night at the Hot Rods Saturday at Bowling Green Ballpark. Those who let ticket sales people know they are from Logan County get in for $10, half of which will either go the Logan County Cougars or Russelllville Panthers baseball team. Executive Director Karen Logan says funds raised from those who don't choose a team will be divided between the two teams. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with the first pitch at 6:35.

Logan Christian Academy ribbon

cutting to be conducted by Chamber

The Logan County Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon cutting Monday at Logan Christian Academy, which is located south of Wal-Mart on the hill where Daymar College was previously located. The Chamber event is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. ith the ribbon to be cut at 12:30.

Cougar basketball camp next 3 days

A basketball camp for grades 3-8 will begin Tuesday and run through Thursday, July 12, at Logan County High School, new Cougar Coach John Tinsley has announced. Times for grades 3-5 will be from 9-11 a.m. For grades 6-8, sessions will be from 1-3 p.m. The fee is $35 per camper.
