WRUS 65 years old today

Sixty-five years ago today—Aug. 28, 1953—a grand experiment came to Russellville when WRUS radio (610 AM) went on the air for the first time. A few years later, WRUS FM was added to make it easier for listeners to hear broadcasts for a greater distance, especially at night. On Aug. 28, 2018, the AM station remains in the same location and with the same commitment to service for the people of Logan County. The FM station has been known as WRUS FM, KQ101, and WBVR (The Beaver). It even disappeared for a few years. Now, however, WRUS FM is back on the air at 94.1, and is again strengthening the AM simulcast throughout the county. Watch The LoJo for more history of WRUS’ 65 years of serving the Land of Logan.

One of holes on Square filled in

One of the craters which have long plagued the east end of Carrico Park Square in Russellville was filled in and covered with dirt and gravel Monday. Both corners of East Fourth Street have been deeply vacant for almost a year since the former locations of Duncan's Drug Store, the Bank of Southern Kentucky and Helen's Dress Shop were razed with the promise of two hotels coming in their place. Word now is that only one hotel is planned in the immediate future and that the former Perry's Drug Store location which stood for decades next to Duncan's has also been purchased by developer Deborah Hirsh and is scheduled for demolition. The filled-in site is on the south side of East Fourth where the bank previously stood.
