Russellville Baseball has a new head coach, and the Panthers didn’t have to look far for the new man to lead them out on to the diamond. Tyler Meacham was tapped by Russellville Athletic Director Kyle Yates this week to lead the Panthers. This was yet another alumni hire for Russellville as Coach Meacham, who graduated from Russellville in 2007, joins fellow alum Ryan Davenport in giving Russellville two homegrown leaders for their baseball and softball programs.
Coach Meacham brings a proud history as a head coach, a former player and an assistant coach to his new position at the helm of the Russellville Baseball program.
Yates said of the hire of Meacham, “At Russellville we believe that we have a proud history of top notch student-athletes that have come through our school. When we have one like Tyler who has left, earned a teaching certificate, and then come home to make Russellville a better place, then we must get those people into roles in which they can have the greatest impact. Coach Meacham is Russellville through and through, and we are greatly excited to have him lead our baseball program in the years to come.”
Already the head golf coach for Russellville, Meacham has an extensive history of coaching in Russellville athletics. He has served as an assistant coach for the boys basketball team for the past five years as well as working as an assistant baseball coach under two Hall of Fame Head Coaches in Lou Kendall and Greg Shelton. Most recently, Meacham worked alongside former Russellville Baseball Coach Blake Crabtree.
This will be the second program Coach Meacham has taken over in Russellville after serving previously as an assistant. He was a golf assistant for three years prior to taking the helm of that program. Coach Meacham was a standout baseball and basketball player for Russellville in the mid-2000s.
Tyler Meacham is a 2011 graduate of WKU with a Bachelors in Physical Education and will complete a Masters in Teacher Leadership this fall from the University of the Cumberlands.
Regarding his new position, Coach Meacham had the following to say, "As a past Panther baseball player, I am proud to take the lead as the head baseball coach at RHS. I have spent the last several years coaching under three experienced coaches who have helped to prepare me for this opportunity. I look forward to this season and continuing to build the Panther baseball program. I am grateful to have my family's support on and off the field as I take the next step forward in my coaching career. Thank you to the Russellville Independent School District for giving me the chance to lead these student athletes. Go big P!"
The son of Dale and Lisa Meacham, Tyler is married to the former Molly Clark, also an RHS graduate. They have two children.
