Franklin-Simpson and Campbellsville were easy winners in championship games in the regions of the two teams from the Land of Logan Friday.

Campbellsville, which ended Russellville’s season last week 50-26, won the Class 1A regional title at Marion, whipping Crittenden County 44-8. The Eagles, who have outscored their three playoff opponents 143-34, will entertain always tough Beechwood in next week’s semifinals.

This is the first time since Frankfort beat Mayfield in the 2007 regional championship that the First District champion didn’t win the regional Class 1A title. During the nine years that had passed, Mayfield had won six regional championships, Russellville two and Crittenden County one.

F-S won its Class 4A regional championship 35-20 over visiting Hopkinsville. Last week Hoptown ended Logan County’s undefeated season with a 45-8 decision. This was the eighth straight win for the Wildcats, who went into last year’s state championship game undefeated. They will entertain Collins in the semifinals.

Also in the First Region, South Warren won a thriller 28-21 over Bowling Green in 5A, Mayfield whipped Owensboro Catholic 40-7 in AA, Elizabethtown romped past Caldwell County 52-6 in AA, and Central Hardin edged Daviess County 27-20 in 6A.
