Tommy Krohn scored 7 of his game-high 23 points in overtime Monday to lead the Logan County Cougars to a 59-52 win over Warren East in both teams’ season opener. The junior who didn’t see much varsity action until late last season also pulled down 11 rebounds.

Coach Lonnie Mason’s team had a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter, but East came back to tie the game and then to have a chance to win in regulation.

The Cougars didn’t allow that and then dominated the extra period, scoring the first nine points.

That nine-point margin came just eight seconds into the final stanza on a free throw by football star Caden McKinnis. Tashaun Neal led the Raider comeback and finished with a team-high 15 points. Treante Patterson added 12 points for the home team.

The guards, senior Austin Rayno and junior Kelby Epley, scored 11 each for Logan with Mykal Hampton adding 10 points and 14 boards. The Cougars outrebounded East 44-33.

Raider coach Brandon Combs talked about how experienced a team Logan is, but in the Daily News poll East was ranked eighth in the region and the Cougars 11th.
