Five talented and successful athletes will be inducted into the Logan County Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame in early January, the Foundation’s Hall of Fame Committee has announced.
They are, from oldest to youngest, as follows:
Greg Shelton (Lewisburg 1971): A two-sport standout at Lewisburg High School, he and his cousin, freshman Eddie Shelton, led the Rangers to the district basketball championship in his senior year, ending Auburn’s eight-year stranglehold on the title. He was Western Kentucky University’s top relief pitcher for four years. After coaching the Russellville American Legion team, he coached Franklin-Simpson for decades, winning a state championship. The baseball field at Franklin is named for him. He also coached the Wildcats to the 2002 district basketball title. After retiring at Franklin, he coached successfully at Beech High School in Tennessee before coming home to coach Russellville and Christian County.
Kenneth Bunton (Auburn 1979): As a sophomore he was the leading scorer on Auburn’s regional finalist basketball team. He was named Logan County/Russellville Basketball Player of the Decade for the 1970s. He played four years of successful college basketball and now is an officer of the court system.
Tyrone Babb (LCHS 1987): He not only quarterbacked the Cougars to their first winning season in their third year of varsity football, but the record was an impressive 8-2. He was the most honored player on the Cougars’ regional finalist basketball team that spring. Several major college football teams recruited him, but he let them know he wanted to play college basketball, which he did successfully for four years.
Tracie Mason (LCHS 1987) A four-year key basketball player for the Lady Cougars, she was the leading scorer on Logan’s regional finalist team as a senior. She was also a track standout, earning state medals. She was a four-year basketball starter at Austin Peay, earning All-OVC honors as a freshman, and is ranked in the top 10 in Lady Govs’ career stats. She has coached at Clarksville Northeast High School for 18 years and is in her 11th season as head coach of girls basketball and boys track.
Billy Taylor (LCHS 2001): He earned numerous track honors for the Cougars, including a state championship. He was named state Track Athlete of the Year. He had major college offers to run track.

The ceremony will be held Friday, Jan. 5, when the Lady Cougars and Cougars host Russellville.
