Despite scoring eight runs, the Logan County Lady Cougars lost their first game of the season Thursday, falling 10-8 to visiting Allen County-Scottsville.

The Lady Cougars spent a lot of time trying to catch up. After giving up four runs in the top of the second, Coach Mark Wood’s Lady Cougars pulled within a run in the bottom of the inning on Rosie Kerchenski’s three-run homer. Presley Harris had doubled and Jillian McLellan singled ahead of her.

The Lady Patriots, however, scored five more runs before Logan Could get on the board again.

LCHS added four runs in the sixth after two outs. McLellan was on base with a fielder’s choice, Kerchenski walked, Shelby Gettings singled in a run, KJ Page reached on a run-scoring error, and Brea Croslin slammed a two-run double.

Then Kennedy Nichols homered to lead off the seventh, but AC-S reliever Karley Burchett set the next three Lady Cougars down in order to end the game.

Page and Gettings each had two hits. Every one of the nine hits figured in the scoring. McLellan and Kerchenski each scored twice. In addition to her three-run homer, Kerchenski walked twice.

Both Kassie Bullington and Bailey Ausbrooks doubled among their two hits each for the Patriots. Maddie Gregory singled in two runs with the team’s third double.

Kris Ann Pardue was the winning pitcher. Sydney Lee pitched the first six innings and took the loss. Abby Hinton pitched a hitless final inning.
