Shannon Booth, who served as head basketball coach for the Russellville Lady Panthers this past season after two years as an assistant to Coach Calvin Head, has resigned her position, and the Russellville Schools have advertised the position as being open.
The Russellville basketball coaching situation was unique last year, since her husband, Rex Booth, was in his first season as head coach of the male basketball team.
Shannon Booth was an outstanding athlete at Marshall County High School during her teenage years.
She worked as an assistant girls basketball coach at Marshall County High School from 2010 to 2014. At Marshall, Booth was a part of three District Championships, three First Region Championships, two trips to the Elite Eight and a 110-32 record.
Additionally, Coach Booth worked as Marshall County Head Volleyball Coach from 2010 to 2011 where she led the Lady Marshalls to the 2010 District Championship and a Regional berth both seasons.
Booth was instrumental in the development and promotion of the Marshall County Basketball Camp program from 2006 to 2012 and brought those foundation building ways to Russellville where she has been an integral part of the development of the highly successful and popular Russellville Jr. Pro program.
Shannon Booth posted the following statement on her Facebook page:
“Over the past three years, I have been fortunate and blessed to be a part of a program that I felt true pride in. I was honored to be around numerous girls and coaches that have made such a positive impact on my life. The chapters that were created and put into my book were some of the best chapters thus far, but as the page turns so do priorities.
“The responsibilities and demands that are on coaches shoulders increase daily, and at the same time, my Lilah Bug continues to grow into a young lady who wants to do more and more. Unfortunately, she has not been able to do much with the way our schedules have been. With that being said, I have decided to start writing another chapter and step away from my head coaching role so that I may be a better mother, wife, daughter, etc.
“I want to personally thank everyone who encouraged, supported, and followed me throughout this journey. Without you all, I never would have made it through!”
