All-important district play begins tonight for the undefeated Logan County Cougars. Coach Todd Adler’s team will welcome Hopkins County Central to Cougar Field for Homecoming.

Hopkins Central has a 3-2 record, having won close games against Todd Central and Webster County along with a 22-0 shutout of Ohio County. The losses are not impressive, though. HCC was beaten by a Muhlenberg County team that the Cougars handled with a running clock, and they lost 42-6 last week to district opponent Madisonville-North Hopkins.

The Cougars are 5-0 with four of the wins via running clocks. The lone exception was last week’s 40-20 victory at McLean County.

Logan has won 16 straight regular season games and is ranked fourth in the state in Class 4A.

The Cougars join Ashland Paul Blazer as the only undefeated teams in 4A. Adler’s team is the top scoring school in the state in their class with 248 points, 55 more than the second highest scoring team, Rowan County.

Logan has also given up the least points in the state (45), 10 points fewer than number two Blazer. Of course that means the margin of victory at 40 points (49.6-9) is by far the largest in the state.

Homecoming activities start at 6:15 with kickoff scheduled for 7. Andy and Zack Woodall will record the play-by-play, which will be aired on all of WRUS AM and FM’s platforms at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Russellville (2-3) travels to Murray to face one of its oldest rivals. Coach Keith Hodge’s Tigers are 3-2, including a 42-6 thrashing of one of Logan’s district rivals, Calloway County. Both teams dispatched Fort Campbell with ease.
